Troy Lay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 13, 2025.
Troy Foster Lay, born on March 2, 1987, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on April 21, 2025, in Bessemer, Alabama. Troy was 38 years old.

Troy's life was marked by deep connections with family and a passion for the things he loved. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Nova Abby Lay (Jessica), who brought immense joy and purpose to his life. Though new to fatherhood, Troy embraced it wholeheartedly-Nova was his special light, and he adored her beyond words.

He is also survived by his mother Stacey Moore (Tom); siblings Janie Lay, Jacob Lay, and Lilah Lay; grandmother Billie Jean Ellis; uncles Joseph Lay (Angie) and John Lay; cousin John Allen Lay; and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Troy held a special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews as well-he was known affectionately as "Uncle T" to Donovan, Gabriel, and Delia Jane. His presence in their lives will be cherished always.

Troy was preceded in death by his father Michael Scott Lay (Leigh Ann), his brother Benjamin King (April), and his nephew Theodore Scott Foster Lay.

A true University of Alabama football enthusiast, Troy rarely missed a Crimson Tide game. Game days were often filled with laughter and camaraderie as he cheered on his team surrounded by friends and family. His love for the sport was infectious and became a defining part of who he was.

Another passion that defined Troy's life was anime-a love sparked during childhood alongside his older brother. Over the years, this interest grew into a lifelong appreciation for animated storytelling in all its forms. Whether watching classic series or discovering new ones, Troy found joy in the vibrant worlds of animation.

Troy's warmth extended far beyond hobbies. He will be remembered for the way he made others feel-loved, seen, and valued. As a father, brother, son, uncle, cousin, and friend, he left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

May Troy Foster Lay's memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to shine through the lives he touched. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 7, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM at Homes 2 Suites Birmingham, AL, 250 18th Street South 35233.
