Mr. Vance David " Dave" Ward, 71, of Morganton, passed away on Monday May 10, 2021 at his residence with his family by his side, after a period of declining health. Mr. Ward was born June 6, 1949 in Catawba County, a son of Estelle Hudson Ward of Hickory and the late Vance Lloyd Ward. He attended Morganton First Baptist Church and was active in the First Baptist Church Missions. Dave loved Bass fishing, spending time on regional rivers and lakes with his friends Wayne Propst and Reid Daniels, watching NC State Basketball, NFL Football, and Pickers on TV. He also spent time traveling the US, México, Canada, Bahamas, with First Baptist Travel and friends Reid and Jane Daniels. Dave was a proud patriot, serving his county for four years in the US Air Force. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother Terry Ward. Surviving are his wife Jacquelyn Lingerfelt Ward of the home, mother, Estelle Hudson Ward of Hickory, Step-son, Bryan Duckworth and wife Karen , step-grandsons, Tanner Duckworth and Carson Duckworth. (He loved and considered Bryan, Tanner and Carson as his own). Also surviving are his sister, Judy Burns and husband Dennis of Hildebran, brother, Steve Ward of Hickory, nieces Sandy Knuckles (John), Katie Ward, Susan Fike (Curt), Kate Caraway (Chris), great-niece, Hayley Caraway, four great-nephews, Luke Murray, Noah Murray, Hayden Caraway and Riley Caraway, sisters-in-law, Barbara Lingerfelt and Marilyn Lingerfelt. Funeral Services for Dave Ward will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday May 14, 2021 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev Dr. Thomas Bland, Rev. Frederick Schuszler and Rev. Dr. Tyler Roach officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Morganton. The Family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese. Masks and Social Distancing would be appreciated. Memorials may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690 or First Baptist Church, 502 West Union St., Morganton, NC 28655.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Dave. He was a nice man and I enjoyed chatting with him. Our prayers are with you.. We will keep you in our prayers, and pray that the good Lord gives you strength and faith that you will see him again one day.
