Vanna Ignagni Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 31, 2015.
Vanna Ignagni, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 30, 2015. She was a beautiful, outgoing, industrious and very religious woman all her life. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Vanna was born in San Giovanni Incarico, Italy, to Giuseppe and Giuseppina Trementozzi. She was the eldest of three children. Her siblings were Alessandro and Maria Sofia. She married Dr. Antonio Ignagni in Rome, Italy, in 1954. In 1955, they moved to Detroit, Mich., with their first child. They had three more children and raised a close and loving family. Antonio passed away in 2001. Vanna enjoyed spending time with her four children, who lived all over the U.S. She made friends wherever she went and was loved by all who spent any time with her. She was funny, honest and very proud of being Italian. She visited her siblings and friends in Italy each year and her accent was always lovingly and comically imitated by her grandchildren. Vanna's personality and constant prayers will be dearly missed by her survivors. Vanna was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bruce Churchill. Survivors: Children, Cinzia Churchill, Patrizia Machnik (Frank), Joseph Ignagni (Darlene) and Claudia Ignagni; and grandchildren, Jason Machnik (Kelly), Justin Machnik, Cristina Rutherford (Chris), Tessa Churchill, Leah Churchill and Chelsea Ignagni.

Sister Vanna was one of the most likable and hospitable people I have ever met. I was truly blessed on countless occasions as a teenager and young man by her generosity, kindness, willingness to open her home, and INCREDIBLE cooking. You could not be around her for very long without laughing and I know she will be missed. My love and sympathy to her beautiful family.

"Trabajar y Orar" -- To Work and To Pray
I will always have a picture in my mind of Vanna busily working with her hands at something--be it cooking, gardening, crocheting--bringing beauty and pleasure into the lives of her family and those around her, and always praying as she worked, sotto voce, for everything and everyone.
As the mother of my closest friends growing up, her home was always an open and welcoming place. Her children and grandchildren were her dearest treasure; they were blessed by her, they blessed her in return, and they honor her with their integrity and dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ. May God bless and comfort you at this time, and may the legacy of good memories and rich heritage she left behind be a source of joy to you every time you think of her.

I've never known anyone who seemed happier, more content, or more Blessed than Vanna. She always seemed so happy to see me with smiles, hugs, and concern for my welfare. In my heart it feels as if I've lost a sister. It was always obvious how much she adored her family. Vanna' life was a testament to God's love and a model for me of contentment in Him. I'm already looking forward to her next hug!

Such a zest for life. Loved God, church and family. Worked hard and gave her all. Pleasant, kind and receptive. A beautiful person who touched many lives with her generous heart. Prayerful and dedicated. Can imagine her now in the garden wih Jesus tending to the roses. Oh yes the joy they will share, we can only imagine. We love you Sister Vanna, you've touched our lives inmeasurably. Your children are very Blessed to have a wonderful Mother like you and we're very blessed for the mark you left on our hearts.
