OAK HARBOR – Vernon S. Zenser, 93, of Oak Harbor, died Sunday evening, November 30, at Foundation Park Alzheimer's Care Center in Toledo. He was born December 31, 1920 in Frenchtown, Carroll Township, Ottawa County, Ohio to Oliver F. and Mabel (Kulow) Zenser. Vernon graduated from Oak Harbor High School, Class of 1939. He married his high school sweetheart Hazel A. Goetz on January 2, 1942. They were married for 67 years until her death on April 27, 2009. He farmed in both Benton and Carroll Townships and retired from the former Standard Products in 1981 after 26 years. An avid sportsman, Vern is the last surviving punter of the Magee Marsh Hunt Club. He and his wife, Hazel, also enjoyed golfing and many hours of fishing from their boat on Lake Erie.
Vern was a member of the Oak Harbor Masonic Lodge No. 495 for 55 years, the Zenobia Shrine of Toledo, Ohio as a Roadrunner, and the Ottawa County Shrine Club. He was one of the original members of the former Zenobia T-Bird unit, traveling to many parades in his 1957 T-bird. Vern also belonged to the Moose Lodge in Port Clinton.
Vern is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. Zenser, Oak Harbor; son, Dr. Terry V. (Barb) Zenser; grandson, Dr. Nathan T. Zenser and great-grandson Oscar Z. Zenser; grandson Jason V. (Angie) Zenser and great-grandson Anthony J. Zenser all of St. Louis, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; and friend Donna and the Brough family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and six siblings: Olive M. (Lester) Miller, Violet (Bill) Jennings, Lester (Hannah) Zenser, Leona (Julius) Pfeiffer, Bernard "Pete" (Betty) Zenser, and Howard W. (Thelma) Zenser.
Visitation will be Friday, December 12, from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. The Oak Harbor Masonic Lodge #495 F&AM will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Vern was a life member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 Toussaint St., Oak Harbor where funeral services will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13. Burial will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Following the service at the cemetery, a luncheon will be served in the social room of the church. The family has suggested memorials for Vernon to Shrine Children's Hospitals, St. Paul United Church of Christ, Heartland Hospice of Toledo, Ohio; or the donor's choice. My sympathy to the Zenser family. I remember Vern from Standard Products. Always had that big smile on his face. I was happy that he had a chance to come to one of our Standard Products reunions. It was good to see him. Rest in Peace Vern.

So sorry to hear of Vernon's passing. So many memories of Vern and Hazel, They were so kind to my family. Vern was like a second father to me. I'm going to miss him. He and Hazel always gave me good advice to lead me to the right path of life. RIP my good friend and thank you for all you did for us.
