Victor Louis Baer Victor Louis Baer, 79, of Powell, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Cleveland and Willie Mumpower Baer; son, Anthony Louis "Tony" Baer; sister, Anne Cross; and brothers, David L. "Doug" Baer, Ted Baer, and Jack Baer. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Ragan Baer; sisters, Fannie B. Hunsucker, and Frances (Nance) Reich of Bristol, Va.; several nieces and nephews; very special family; goddaughter, Miranda Moretz, her children, Isaac and Kingston; godson, Travis Moretz; Tim Moretz who was like a son to him; best buddy, Carolyn Brown; special friends, Tosha Noland, and A.J. Canizales, all of Powell, Tenn.; special friend, Tammy Myers of Bristol, Va.; and a precious little brown and white angel, "LuLu", who gave him lots of love and attention. Victor was a loving husband and father. He worked as a machinist for over 30 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In recent years he attended many gospel singings, revivals and meetings at Heavenly Rest Baptist Church in Abingdon, Virginia. He had a love for children and enjoyed country and gospel music. Victor enjoyed riding his motorcycle with friends and also spending time with Tony helping him prepare for and racing his motorcycle. He was very talented at woodworking, and spent time hiking, attending gospel concerts and auctions, and seeking antiques. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 26, 2013, from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charlie Harmon officiating. Following the service the committal and interment will be held at Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tenn. Pallbearers will be Michael Hunsucker, Bo Hunsucker, Tim Hunsucker, Steve Reich, Jerry Cross, and Bobby Ragan. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Cross, Wilburn Necessary, and Verlin Necessary. The family would like to extend many thanks to Hospice nurse Yvonne Geraghty, CNA and friend Samantha Ezell, and all other Hospice workers. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed by visiting www.oakley-cook.com. Arrangements especially for Mr. Baer and his family have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory.
