Dear Mary Jane and family, I am so very sorry for your loss and mine. I was shocked to learn of Vic's passing by email from Max. I have just returned from three very difficult years out of the country and have lost touch with many things, For me, Vic was a wonderful personal friend, a great neighbour and a very sharp and enjoyable co-worker. Again, my very sincere condolences and best wishes for a happy and healthy continuation.

I first met Vic back in the 80's working at DOS in Ottawa (we briefly had to share a cubicle because DOS was short of space). I learned to appreciate his fine sense of humour and loved his stories. He will be missed by a great many people, I am sure. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I feel priviledged to have Vic touch my life. He was a special colleague and a great mentor. I will always remember Vic as being a keen listener through his relaxed demeanour and had a special knack for simplifying seemingly complex issues. Above all, he was a great guy to just be around and share great moments.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Decloux. I have many great memories of him through drum corps, and hanging out with Vic Jr. on Oakridge in Scarb. My heart goes out to the family. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the service, but my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Later when he moved to Ottawa and I was seconded there for a 3 month period while he was out of the country he offered his home to me to stay-which I gladly accepted. He had the unique ability to leave you in an uplifted mood no matter what might have been weighing him down at the given moment. I figured out his secret long ago, of where he derived his strength and inner peace...It was his deep love for his family that literally made him glow with happiness, pride and contentment and he always invariably talked about what was new with the family and every mini-van activity he relished. I am so sorry to hear of Vic’s passing. He was a great guy. I knew him from the office (Department of Communications) and some business trips. Vic, you were always ready with a smile and a laugh, an interesting anecdote or a sympathetic ear; whatever was needed you knew. I remember the moments we shared and they were good times. It seems to hit us too late, realizing that we should have spared more time for the special moments. We met first in the early 70s when he was in Toronto, then worked together in DOC and later in the consulting field. More recently we got together occasionally in a small group of ex-Arctic veterans who meet for coffee a couple of times a year. Vic had spent many years in the north and we enjoyed sharing stories of these earlier times. We will miss him deeply.
