Victor Franklin Sampson

Victor Franklin Sampson, 62, died at the Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, following a long illness. Born on December 10, 1949, in Decatur, Illinois, he lived in Charlottesville, Virginia before settling in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He worked at ABC Cab Company as a cab driver until his illness. Victor was a member of the Burley High School Marching Band under his father and band director, Elmer "Sonny" Sampson. Victor was preceded in death by his father, Elmer "Sonny" Sampson; his devoted grandmother, Mable Tonsler Sampson; and his beloved aunt, Fannie Sampson Byers. Victor is survived by his wife, JoAnne Sampson of Harrisonburg, Virginia; two sisters, Fannie Sampson Harris of Powahatan, Virginia, and Cheri L. Sampson of Charlottesville, Virginia; stepmother, Mary D. Sampson of Charlottesville, Virginia; four daughters, Sonji Morton-Cofield and Lindsey of Franklin, Virginia, Antoniette Nelson Tyler and Bill of Crozet, Virginia, Joyce Wells of Portsmouth Virginia, Tamice Terrell and Mark of Charlottesville, Virginia; and four sons, John I. Morton of Richmond, Virginia, Kent Lewis of Locust Grove, Virginia, Kenneth Lewis of Orange County, Virginia, and Victor Sampson of Harrisonburg, Virginia; one niece, Leah M. Sampson of Charlottesville, Virginia; two nephews, Ryan Harris and Sean Harris, both of Powhatan, Virginia; and a host of grandchildren, cousins, other family and friends. A private memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012. Pastor Lindsey A. Cofield will oversee the private family service.
