Victor Serecerez

Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and dear friend, Victor Manuel Serecerez, age 95, of Las Cruces passed from this life on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born June 15, 1921 in Vinton, Texas to Juan and Maria de la Luz Alvarado Serecerez. Victor served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn his passing include his son, Martin Y. Serecerez and wife. Gracie and daughter, Gloria S. Espinoza and husband, Gabriel all of Las Cruces; four grandchildren, Javier P. Serecerez and companion Georgia Montoya of Albuquerque, Leticia S. Rivera and husband, Nick Rivera, Gina M. Serecerez and fiancé, Danny Franco, Jr., Joseph Espinoza and wife, Cecilia Espinoza all of Las Cruces. Other survivors include ten great-grandchildren. Victor was preceded in death by his loving wife, Guillermina Yañez Serecerez in 2005, and his brother, Martin Serecerez, who passed at the age of 2.
"Poppo", as he was fondly known to his loving family, was a well-known and long-time farmer in the Doña Ana Valley. He then worked at New Mexico State University Physical Plant and retired in 1995 after 14 years of service. Poppo always stressed the importance of pursuing higher education, attending church on Sundays and always treating others with love and respect to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica, listening to old records and watching old western movies.
Visitation for Mr. Serecerez will begin at 9 AM Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish, 3600 Paroquia Street in Tortugas, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 10 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately thereafter with the Reverend Don Adamski, Celebrant, and Reverend Valentine Jankowski co-celebrating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W Picacho Avenue where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife. Military Honors will be accorded by the New Mexico Army National Guard Honor Guard and the Marines Corps League El Perro-Diablo Detachment.
Serving as casket bearers will be Javier and Victor Serecerez, Joseph Espinoza, Tobias Murphy, Isaiah Sotelo and Jesse Yañez. Honorary bearers will be Nick Rivera, Danny Franco, Jr., Robert Alvarez, George Montoya, Leo Granillo, Jr., Ramon Tellez, Gabriella Serecerez, Giselle Murphy, Myraiah and Andrew Espinoza, Jose Gomez III and Santana Ramirez.
