Virginia Perkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 26, 2018.
The family of Virginia Dare Hagaman Perkins announces her passing into eternity on February 25, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born on July 19, 1918 to Mamie and Conley Hagaman and was named after the first child born in America to early settlers from England. The 4th of 6 children (Lucy, Nell, Carl, Virginia, Bula Dell and Bill), she grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated from Central High School in 1935. She is the last survivor from her high school class. She was briefly employed by a TNT plant after high school. She met her eventual husband, Franklin W. Perkins, Jr. (Ty) while employed at a five and dime store. Ty claimed he had found his million dollar baby at the five and dime. They married in 1938 and were blessed with two daughters, Peggy Ann and Patricia Dell, who proclaim their mother to be the epitome of motherhood. Her family moved to East Point, Georgia in 1950 due to her husband's employment with Southern Railway. Virginia was a member of First Baptist Church of East Point and was also active in The Women's Club, Garden Club, Women's Missionary Union, Voting Polls and East Point Clean Community projects. She worked for 30 years in the accounting department for Sears, Roebuck Co. She was a natural mathematician and excelled in her work. She enjoyed an extremely active and healthy life into her late 90's. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and matriarch to her multiple generations. She stated that the secret to her long life was: "I Love Living". She enjoyed retirement in the Marietta area for well over 20 years and was an active member at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972. She is survived by her children, Peggy Perkins Kerman (Horace) of Overton, Nevada and Patricia Perkins Orchard of Atlanta, Ga. She was also blessed with 5 grandchildren: Scott Stewart, Cindy Stewart, Todd Stewart, Leanne Cole and Monte Beardin. She had 11 great grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one cousin and several nieces and nephews.
We will never forget her angelic personality, giving nature, ever present smile, intelligence and humor. She had an overwhelming love for God, family and country. If you were with Gina, you were having a good time. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A Service of Remembrance and Celebration will be held on Friday, March 2,2018 at 11:30 AM at H.M. Patterson & Son – Canton Hill, in Marietta. Visitation with the family will precede the Service starting at 10 AM. Processional and Interment will follow in Chattanooga at Hamilton
Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation in Virginia's name to Agape Hospice, 575 Old Norcross Rd, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.

My sincere condolences to the family.
May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes.
(Psalms 116:15)
