Waldemar "Wally" Tomtschik Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2025.
Waldemar "Wally" Tomtschik, a devoted husband, proud father, cherished grandfather, and passionate Civil War reenactor, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born in Germany on September 30, 1948, to Emil and Waltraud Tomtschik, who preceded him in death, Wally immigrated to the United States as a young boy and grew up on a farm, where he learned the values of hard work, humility, and faith. He was one of five children, with three sisters-Monika (Todd), Erika (Dick), and Tammy (Paul)-and one brother, John (Patty).

Wally proudly served in the United States Army from December 1968 to September 1970, spending part of his service in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) during the Vietnam War. This chapter of his life instilled a lasting sense of duty and honor.

On December 13, 1980, he married the love of his life, Carol Tomtschik (née Brandt). Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and steadfast faith. Wally was a devoted father to Tanya (who preceded him in death on February 6, 2009), Shelly (Jaimie), Wally Jr., Alexander (Jenny), and Emme. He was also a proud grandfather to fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Wally's life was grounded in his love of God, which guided him in his words, actions, and relationships. His faith was quiet yet unwavering, and it shone through in the kindness, patience, and wisdom he shared with those around him.

He retired from a fulfilling career as a property manager and enjoyed Civil War reenacting as a way to connect with history and community. His passion for the past reflected his appreciation for heritage, sacrifice, and the stories that shape us.

Wally will be remembered for his deep faith, calm strength, generous heart, and love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.

Dad,

I have known you for almost my entire life and after 35 years I am still proud to be a loving part of your family. You were a second dad and your daughter Emmie, my little sister and best friend. I will always have fond memories growing up: civil war reenactments, the guitar you would play and sing to us, and calling me your other daughter. You will be missed dearly. Thank you for being my second dad.

Love,
Racquella
