Warren Dorr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2009.
ADDISON - Warren W. "Ikey" Dorr III, 56, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, while doing what he loved, driving a stock car around the track at Speedway 95. Ikey was born Oct. 14, 1952, in Damariscotta, to Gladys and Warren Dorr Jr. He was raised in Wiscasset until the family moved Downeast in 1960 to start their worm business. Ikey, above all else, was a great, loving dad. He was an all around fun guy, natural comedian and the ultimate instigator. Ikey held several jobs throughout his life. First and foremost, was digging worms. He also dug clams, worked construction, and worked on urchin, quahog and scallop draggers. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto racing, snowmobiling, dancing, food fights and holidays, especially Christmas. He was also a member of Narraguagus Snowmobile Club. Ikey is survived by his mother, Gladys of Addison; three children, Krystal, Warren W. "Ren" Dorr IV and Ethan Dorr, and their mother, Stacey; companion, Monica West; sister, Debi Murphy and her husband, Mike; two nieces, Andrea Joyce and Jennifer Murphy; special great-niece and great-nephew, Kylee and Kameron Joyce; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ikey is also survived by numerous friends, too many to name. He was predeceased by his dad; paternal grandparents, Warren Dorr Sr. and Helen; maternal grandparents, Otis and Evelyn Carver; several aunts and uncles. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge. A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the Lewis B. Lovejoy gymnasium at D.W. Merritt School, Addison. Interment will be afterward at Church Hill Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ikey may be made to the National Heart Association. www.bragdonkelley.com

My first childhood memory of Uncle Ikey was when I was about 4 or 5 I rode with him in his black Dodge from his house to Ninny’s house. It had been snowing so he decided to do 360s all the way up her driveway. Now you know how long her driveway is! He scared me so bad that it was high school before I would ride with him again!

Holidays and birthdays are very big in our family. Ikey almost never missed an event. But every time he would call on his way out the door “What can I bring!” Growing up it was my grandfather who usually started the food fight at every meal. Ikey gladly took that over and has passed it on to my son.

Another one of Ikey’s heroes was Elvis. About 9 years ago Ninny, Mom, Ikey, Jen & I went to Kansas to visit our family there. Coming home we got stranded at the Memphis airport for several hours so we took a bus to Graceland Ikey was like a little kid at Disney World!

We all know how much Ikey loved food! His favorite was Divinity Fudge! Uncle Ikey, I made you some today! Enjoy!

He loved racing! My family and I spent many, many weekends at Speedway 95 during the glory days! When the announcer would say driving #3 is IIIIIIIIIIIIIKKKKEEEEEEEEEEY DORRR, the whole place knew where we were sitting as we cheered him on!

All my life Ikey would aggravate me and play jokes on me as he did with a lot of you here. He continued that with my children.. One day last summer up to Schoodic, Kameron was sleeping and Ikey took a black pen and drew a mustache on him and painted his toenails!

Kameron who is 4 idolized Ikey. One morning last summer up to camp Ikey cooked all of us breakfast. He had fried eggs. Ever since that day, most recently Sunday morning when you ask Kameron how he wants his eggs his response is “How Ikey made um”! When I told Kameron of Ikey’s passing all he could say was But I like to wrestle with him!

The following is what Kylee who’s 8 wanted me to say: Uncle Ikey was the greatest Uncle. I loved wrestling with him and having food fights. Every time with him was fun. He was a good person. I love you Uncle Ikey very much and I will miss you! Love, Kylee

Thanks for the memories! I love you! “Let’s go street stocking!!!!!!!!!

Ren and family
I’m truly sorry for your loss of a father and a great man. Let all the good memories stay in your hearts. Although I never got a chance to meet Ikey I have only heard great things about this man, what a joy it must be to have him in your life. You all are in my thoughts, if you need anything I'm here for you.

A hero to so many;
We couldn't believe the news;
It came as a shocking surprise-
But not the happy, rejoicing surprise .
Even the people who weren't your fans-
Mourned this great loss.
The loss of a hero, champion, a great man, a father,
No matter where you began the race-
You made your way the front of the pack.
We all loved that about you-
Whether the fans be young or old.
Fans would sit in the stands-
And cheer as loud as their lungs would allow.
Now, you've finished the ultimate race.
As you reach the pearly gates-
All decorated with checkered flags.
We mourn the world's and family's loss
But you will always be alive in our thoughts-
And our hearts.

Ren, Ethan and family

Your dad was special to us. He treated Travis like he was a brother to you two. From letting him squeal tires to mud runs in the back yard. He always smiled and never complained about you guys just being kids. (if anything he would encourage) When it come to Lanie, no matter how hard he tried he couldn't get her to go to the Irving for a hot dog or for M&M's. Boy would she smile and laugh at him. I guess he just didn't have it like you do Ethan. He would go by the house and rev the engine. He didn't need a horn. We will never forget his friendship.

To The family & friends,
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
My connection with Ikey was years ago at Speedway 95, he & my X-brother in-law Gene Macquirre were best of pals. I remember staying in the Pit with his son when Ikey had a scare with his heart back then.Everyone else was running toward the in-field.
My heart goes out to his children.

To The Dorr Family: Many memories of Ikey with our family, from babysitting Krystal, to the speedboat rides at the lake to racing at Speedway 95 and the 95 banquets -- he always "had your back" -- I remember one race Andy was having trouble with another racer and Ikey came right over...."you let me know if you need any help in the pits", just an awesome guy, like I've said "If Tomorrow Was My Last Day, Am I Doing What I Want To Be Doing Today?" and Ikey was, he was in his glory and just remember that - he passed away enjoying his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. RIP IKEY -- God Speed! Gayle Norton & Andy Saunders & Whitney Saunders

The roar of an engine the grind of a shift
Turn of the corner the straight a way so swift
Your focus so keen, mind set to full whit
The curse of the handling when you hit that dip
Hear the crowd yelling so ever loud
Taking the checkers makes one feel so proud
You did what you loved to your soul content
Just Racing,Racing,Racing is all that it meant
Now on the golen tracks of our LORDS speedways
Thats where you'll be racing each and every day
With the biggest of grins and the eternity of joy
Racing,Racing,Racing in Ikeys new toy
I see you now racing right beside Earnhardt
Oh and theres Benny Parsons behind you at the start
Davey Allison steering you along the way
Along with all the locals whom are racing there today
We'll all be missing you at speedway 95
But at least you'll be racing full of joy and pride
So take into the corners real tight and deep
And as we all think of you we'll try not to weep
Now that your in HEAVEN there all winners that you like
And you'll have your share of trophies by good friend Ike

You'll be sadly missed by all

My heart goes out to all his family

It seems impossible that we have to say goodbye to such a fun loving all around great guy like Ikey. I'm sure everyone he met has a lasting memory of him. For me, I will never forget the day I was at Ab's fueling up my mustang and here comes Ikey in his Monte Carlo. You'll never guess what he said...Wanna race?. I just laughed at him and said, I would Ike, but I wouldn't want to make you feel bad when you lose. Ikey always would put a smile on your face or make you laugh. He will be sadly missed. Our sincere sympathy goes out the Dorr family.

I first got to know Ikey back when Amy and I were going out and she would babysit for him and Stacy. One the nicest people you would ever know, always ready to give you the shirt off his back.Hard to believe he's gone.I went by his house yesterday, looked up his driveway into the garage and there was the orange ss.Sent goosebumps up my arms thinking we'll never see him rodding on her again. We all called him Ikey Earnhardt and I'm sure he and the Intimidater are sharing racing stories and bumping fenders on GOD'S greatest race track. You will surely be missed Ikey.

They arrived in my driveway at the right time when I needed help so desperately. That kindness I will always remember. Love Philip and Valerie

Cuzin Ikey,
I regret never having the chance to see you burn rubber, except that one time at your graduation that cousin Ellen mentioned when I was 13, and am even more saddened that I never saw you tear up that raceway and hear your name over the speakers!!
I always tell the story when I was little how I couldn't ever understand what you were sayin (being a Rhode Islander) and when you wanted me to tell your mom (Aunty Gladys) somethin and I didnt know what you were saying and I started crying (I was about 4-5 yrs)!
I was glad to see you and talk about wrestling at Cuzin Ellens wedding 2 yrs ago!
RIP Ikey

All I can say is I will always be daddys little girl or as you would say "daddys little ram butt" There was never a day in my life that I didn't wonder what you were up to and that will never change. I have been so fortunate to have you as a dad, a friend and most of all a teacher. I promise that I will take care of my brothers and we WILL keep your legend going. I will never forget you. Where you might not have passed down your dare devil ways to me, because I think my brothers got a little bit of No Fear Fever" but thanks to you, I will always have a lead foot. And hey maybe after all those years of not eating tuna fish because you told me where it came from, maybe I will just give it a whirl :)

I will love you always and forever Dad

My uncle would have been some tickled that he made the cover of the sports page! He had two heros in his life, Dale Earnhardt and Andy Santerre. It took my breath away when I read that those kind words in the article came from Andy. He would be so touched by what Andy said about him, it really would have meant the world to him. It really means a lot to my family that the paper, Andy, Ernie & Clarence took the time to talk about Ikey and the thing he loved to do most. He told us a couple of weeks before he died, "If I die in my race car, I'll die a happy man." and he did. He died doing what he loved, just like his hero Dale Earnhardt. I hope they are both up in heaven talking about racin! The best memories I have of Ikey are watching him race every weekend when my whole family drove up from Addison to Speedway 95 to be his rowdy cheering section and when he would let us kids ride in the racecar with him up and down his driveway at home. He was so funny and always tried to make everyone laugh. He used to tease me so bad and try to get a rise out of me and boy he did every time and didnt he laugh when he did. He always tried to get me in trouble by starting food fights and then blaming it on me. I am extremely proud to be his niece and for his many accomplishments at Speedway 95 and throughout his life. His greatest accomplishment was his three wonderful children and I know that his spirit will live on in each of them. Im gonna miss him calling me all the time to find out where Keeg and I are fishing and what we are using to catch the big ones. Whenever I catch a fish hes the first person I want to brag about it to! He was a great uncle, friend and driver and i will forever love and miss him.

Where to begin all the memories! From all funny things that happened camping at Deer Lake. When Tammy kept going in Ikey's camper telling him he had some women out here waiting for him and I still never paid him , Ren and Ethan back for the time I woke up at camp and they had put my Explorer in this huge puddle in the middle of the road. I said "you wait til I get a whole of that Ikey." Then there was the scary time Ikey had race Peewee out to meet the ambulance out on route 9. Kevin and I will miss the seeing you on our ice fishing trips and Four wheeling. Ren and Ethan, time will heal and you both will have plenty of stories to tell of all those fun times. To the Dorr Family,

My sincerest sympathies to everyone who loved Ikey. When I was 6 yrs old my family drove from RI to Maine to attend his high school graduation. We stayed at Aunt Gladys and Uncle Warren's house. I can remember Ikey peeling out in the driveway when he left the house. I was so happy that he came to my wedding 3 years ago. It meant a lot to me to have him there. I didn't see it for myself but I heard that during dinner he was throwing rolls from his table all the way across the room to Cousin David's table.
When I heard what happened I thought immediately of Uncle Warren and that the two of them would be together again.
Please know that I thinking of you all and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Monica,
We will never forget the time when we were on our way to Machias and Ikey said "Where does everyone want to eat?" Adam said "Ground Round." Ikey said "Let's go!" We will always remember coming down to visit and Ikey telling stories about "Ole Uncle Hump there." It really meant a lot to me when you and Ikey came with Adam and I down to Jonesport to look at my Dad's memorial sign during Christmas. It was funny when we came to visit and Ikey would turn the TV up loud so he could hear over our conversations and turn it down low and ask what we had said. These are just a few memories we have with Ikey. There are way to many too write! We will miss him. We love you Monica and are here for you if you ever need anything.

To see Ikey smile was a true gift. His smile brightened up a room and would make you smile no matter what kind of mood you were in. Ikey's ties with me and my family run deep. He always asked about "Uncle Erwin" whenever we saw each other and loved to tell me about how much fun and trouble they got into together. Recently, while dining at 44 with Monica and friends, he put two and two together and realized who my mom is. "We went to high scool together.", he exclaimed. I wish could remember what I said back to him because he got a big grin on his face. He loved knowing everybody including my young sons. He espcially wanted to know all about their ATVing and dirtbiking and if they were acting like their Uncle Erwin. Then, when he would see them he would tease them unmercifully. He was a great chaffeur on road trips and we will have to save our future adventures for when we meet again. Thank you, God, for giving us Ikey and all of his wonderful attributes that he generously shared with everyone.

Our thoughts are prayers are with all of you: Gladys, Stacey, Krystal, Ren, Ethan, Monica, Debi and family.

I think we are put on thia earth for a purpose . I think Ikey was put here to show us how much life can offer some one if they are just willing to try . He was just such a positive and happy guy . we have had some really fun memories . nothing really seemed to bother him. Like the day we got stuck 100 's of times trying to get back home from snowmobiling . I can see him now saying just give it to ah! as he was going a hundred miles an hour across a muck hole grinning ear to ear! He is going to be missed by so many but he has touched so many lives and he has been a good friend to us all !

Love always,

Lawrence and Dawn

Ikey was an amazing man and great friend to have. One thing Chris and I have always missed since closing our store on the corner of Rt. 1 and 187 is Ikey's burn outs he did for us daily, we always knew when Spring hit, Ikey had his Monte Carlo out and ready. We could always count on Ikey giving us a smoke show or taking off from the stop sign sideways. We could also always count on Ikey speaking to us whenever he saw us, he either had a story to tell or something to aggraviate us about to see if he could get a rise out of us. He was the most free sprited man we had ever met. We loved him so much and will miss him dearly. Ren, Ethan and Stacey, we love you all and send our deepest condolences to you, know we are here for you now and forever, you need anything let us know. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Chris, Brigitte, Desiree and Brooke Beal

I have the best memories of Ikey, the troublemaker! He will be sadly missed, but will always smile from the memories. My favorite memory is decorating his mom's Christmas tree by throwing the ornaments from the couch. My heart goes out to all who's lives were touched by Ikey, he was truly one of a kind.
Miss ya....
Your cousin, Theresa

Spike, you will forever be in my heart and on my mind. We had 3 wonderful years together, you made me see what living was all about, even if it was being dumped from the back of your snowmobile. You were so spontanious...like my 2 day notice to get packed so we could drive to Florida to have supper with mom & Dad. You were a wonderful friend to my son Adam and he loved your personality. Gladys I am deeply sorry for your heartbreak, I wish I could take it all away. Debi, Mike, Andi & Jen, Ikey thought the world of you and cherished his family deeply. He couldn't wait to get to camp for a "get together." Kylee & Kam your uncle Ikey thought more of you than you will ever know. Kylee he loved to watch you play ball...so next time hit a home run for him! Kam he was so proud of you at your graduation. It made his day when you waved to him from the stage. Keep Uncle Ikey in your heart forever! Krystal, Ren & Ethan your dad told me many times lately, if something happens to me tell my kids I love them...and he truely did. Thank you all for making me feel like a part of your family and sharing a very special man. I will love him forever! Monica

Where do we begin, when the lost is so great. Ikey has been a friend for years, he has been a side kick to both our boy's Daniel and William and our grandson Michael, which thought the world of him. Danny has offen referred to him as family, like having another kid around and everyone who know's Ikey will understand that statement. We will miss all those visits, going out to eat, hunters Breakfasts, (food fights) 1 2 3 draw Michael, and Daniel will miss you everytime that he picks up that worm hoe and you aren't by his side,
Our thoughts and Prayers are with all of you. Love Danny and Juanita Gray
