With deep sorrow and immense gratitude, we celebrate the life of Warren Gerald Urlaub, a man of unwavering integrity, quiet strength, and deep compassion.

Warren was born and raised in Rochester, NY, where he initially lived with his parents, Charles and Emily Urlaub at 46 St. Jacobs Street, later moving to 27 Beckwith Terrace. His early years in Rochester shaped the strong values and work ethic he carried throughout his life. He attended Monroe High School, later completing his senior year at Valley Forge Military Academy, where he developed discipline and leadership skills that would serve him well in the years ahead.

Following the end of World War II, Warren embarked on a remarkable journey through Europe, hitchhiking and hopping onto freight trains as he made his way across the continent. With a spirit of adventure and curiosity, he embraced the post-war world, witnessing its transformation firsthand and gaining experiences that shaped his outlook on life. His travels exemplified his determination, adaptability, and desire to truly understand the world beyond his own.

On September 9, 1955, Warren married Elaine Ann Ringelstein, daughter of Joseph Ringelstein and Mildred Bettner, at St. Margaret Mary RC Church in Irondequoit, NY. Their union was built on love, mutual respect, and shared adventures. Together, they raised four children: Charles Joseph Urlaub and wife Susan Gorman; John Warren Urlaub and wife Patty Yahn; Joan Elaine Urlaub and husband Larry Fulmer; and Gerald Paul Urlaub and wife Diane Geis. Warren's love for his family was steadfast, and his wisdom and kindness shaped the lives of those closest to him.

He attended the University of Rochester and later graduated from MIT on February 2, 1954, with a Bachelor of Science in Building Engineering and Construction. That same year, Warren began a distinguished 30-year career with A.W. Hopeman & Sons General Contractors, where he rose to the position of Vice President. His leadership and expertise played a vital role in the company's success, contributing to significant construction projects across Rochester and beyond.

Throughout his career, Warren worked on transformative building projects, shaping the landscape of his hometown. His work included projects at the University of Rochester, Nazareth College, Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, Eastman Theater, Eastman Kodak, Penfield High School, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, St. Charles Borromeo Church, and the Baden-Ormond Hanover Housing Complex. He played a role in constructing numerous area banks and some of the most iconic mansions on East Avenue, including the Ryder Mansion and George Eastman's House. His final project was the Strong Children's Museum, a fitting capstone to a career that prioritized building spaces meant to inspire and uplift others.

Warren had a deep love for travel, and he embraced the opportunity to explore new places and experience different cultures. Many of his journeys were shared with Elaine, as together they embarked on countless voyages, creating memories that spanned across lands and oceans. Their travels were filled with adventure, discovery, and a profound appreciation for the world around them.

Warren also found joy in Canandaigua Lake, where he owned a cottage and home. There, he spent countless hours sailing and boating, instilling in his children a deep love for the water and the freedom it offered. His time on the lake was filled with adventure, reflection, and treasured family moments that remain in the hearts of those who shared them with him.

Later in life, he pursued a career in real estate, working as a realtor associate with Edelweiss Realtors in Canandaigua, NY. Through this role, he helped people find homes, build their futures, and make important life decisions with integrity and care.

In 1986, Warren and Elaine made their home in Penthouse Towers in Highland Beach, FL. until 2001 when Elaine passed. There, they enjoyed the tranquility of coastal living, surrounded by the natural beauty of the ocean. He continued to enjoy Florida with his longtime companion, Sue Hill. They loved to travel and spend time together each evening playing games.

Above all, Warren (Big Dad) cherished his eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn Marie Urlaub, Morgan Lee Urlaub (Bobby), Kacey Urlaub (Scott), Kimberly A. Fulmer Mullins (Matt), Chad Urlaub (Amy), Brendan Urlaub, Jamie Urlaub (Marcus), and Jacob P. Fulmer (Andi). His love, guidance, and constant support shaped their lives, and his legacy will live on through them. Warren was proud to be a Great-Grandfather to 4 Great-Grandchildren: Ryder Fulmer, James Mullins, Lainey Fulmer, and Baby Mullins. He also left a lasting impression on his surviving brother-in-law, Philip Parkes and sister in-law Nancy Ringelstein and many nephews and nieces, especially his niece, Kathleen Kendall's 4 children, Jonathan (3 great-grandchildren), Meghan (3 great-grandchildren), Sean and Kendall.

Warren's moral compass never wavered. He approached every challenge with honesty, treated every person with dignity, and made choices rooted in wisdom and empathy. Whether offering guidance, lending a helping hand, or standing firm in his beliefs, he embodied the virtues of honor and responsibility.

His legacy is not only in the lessons he taught but in the lives he touched. Warren led by example, instilling in those around him the values of fairness, perseverance, and humility. His strength was not loud but steady, his love not fleeting but constant.

Though he has left this world, his principles remain in the hearts of those who knew him. We find comfort in knowing that his legacy will continue, carried on through the kindness we show, the honesty we uphold, and the integrity we live by-just as he did.

Rest in peace, Jerry. Your life was a testament to goodness, and we are better for having known you.
