Wayne EVANS Obituary
With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Wayne on 28th April 2023. Most dearly loved husband of Dianne and treasured Dad of Tyler. Loved father-in-law of Jessie-May and grandad of Paipa-Jane and Violet-Mae. He will leave a huge hole in the lives of many people. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at William Cotton & Son Chapel, 29 Beattie Street, Feilding, on Friday 5th May at 11.00am. For those unable to attend, Wayne's service will be live streamed on his tribute page at www.williamcotton.co.nz/tributes

Many condolences to Dianne and Tyler. I have so many memories of Wayne at school when I started in his mechanical engineering class in my 5th form year. He always took the time to help us not just with the class but helped us with other classes and our lives as teenagers. He was a mentor to us. On more than one occasion he saved my life by helping me through tough times. He always had a ear to listen. He was also my mums teacher when she was an adult student and he became a very good family friend and helped me stay strong and standing after she passed away long after I graduated school. He was an amazing person and someone we all looked up to. I wish I could have been there to say goodbye today. Rest easy Wayne. Please know you made an ever lasting impact on so many of your students lives.

Our deepest sympathy to Diane and family in the loss of Wayne.
We first met Wayne when he was taught our children at Cheltenham School in the 80´s. He was a great teacher and so popular with the kids.
Geoff continued his association with Wayne at Belt Drive and appreciated his help.

So sorry Dianne and Tyler to hear of Wayne's passing. In many ways he was a 'larger than life' character, almost always eager to chat and share his opinion on many things.
I first stumbled upon Wayne in Belt-drive's Cuba Street premises in the 1990s when he began servicing my vehicle. I was impressed by his knowledge and passion for mechanical and automotive matters and the various associated sports like stockcars and motocross.
During one of our many conversations Wayne told me he used to be a primary school teacher, starting his teaching career at Colyton School. When I became Principal of Manawatu College in 2002 I soon discovered that some of our students were keen on automotive but we had no qualified teacher. So I asked Wayne if he would like to resurrect his teaching career in a very part-time capacity by coming to Foxton two or three part-days a week to provide some practical work for our students. And so began an 18? year stretch where Wayne and Diane (and more latterly Dee too?) juggled running Belt-drive and teaching two-three classes of automotive and mechanical engineering.
Wayne was the perfect fit for our kids, and they soaked up what he imparted like blotters. On the days of the week when Wayne wasn't down the students were required to do their theory, which didn't work out nearly as well as the practical classes with Mr Evans.
Very good engineering teachers are a scarce commodity in NZ high schools, and Wayne enabled our students to have a teacher who knew his stuff, and was 'out there doing it', like motocross with Tyler in the early years.
Wayne also knew 'life' and business, and often he took the opportunity in classes to share some life lessons because of his passion to make a difference in young lives.
Thank you Dianne for making it possible for Wayne to share his passion with the hundreds of engineering students who went through his classes. He made a real difference!
I count it a privilege and honour to have known Wayne as a good friend and as a colleague.

We were shocked to hear of Wayne´s passing!
We will sadly miss the philosophical conversations that we have had over belts and of life in general. Always such a nice guy to deal with. Nothing was ever a problem.

Greetings Dianne and family from the team at Autokraft PN . What a shock to learn of Wayne's death just a day after the funeral of a friend and colleague the same age .
My heart sank to an even lower level today . We just hope Beltdrive trades into the future .
I wish Gods blessing on you all , and thank him for Wayne's life and cheerful memories . Another life too early taken .
