BAUMGARTEN
DR. WERNER, Oct. 29, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Claudia (nee Ricci) Baumgarten and father of Claudia C. Baumgarten. Dr. Baumgarten was born in Berlin, Germany on Feb. 14, 1914. He emigrated with his family to the United States in 1933. He began his education at the University of Munich and completed his PhD in Bio-Chemistry at Cal. Tech. He was employed at Merck & Co. for over 30 years and continued to work in the pharmaceutical industry well into his 80's. He received many awards and was a Fellow of the International Society of Hematology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the NY Academy of Sciences. He was a published writer in the scientific field and consultant in his later years. He resided in R Rydal Park for 6 years and was very active there. Friends are invited to gather at the FITZPATRICK FUNERAL HOME, 1500 York Rd., Abington, PA (wheelchair accessible) on Saturday at 10 A.M. followed by Funeral Service at 11 A.M. Int. Hillside Cem. There will be a luncheon after the funeral to which all friends and family are invited. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Franciscan Sisters at Drexel-Nieman School, 1901 Potter St., Chester, PA 19103.

I worked at MSD from 53 to 69 and remember Dr. Baumgarten. A very well respected and great man. My sympathy goes out to his family.
