Wesley Wray

45+ year League City, TX, resident Wes Wray, 80, passed away February 20th, 2014 at Kindred Hospital. Memorial services will be held Tuesday February 25th at 12:30pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Wes was born to Rosa Lee Wray on November 25th, 1933 in Enid, OK. He, and his wife Sue, moved to League City in 1965. His father passed away when he was only 8 and, as the oldest son, he accepted paternal responsibilities at a very your age. His life was an unyielding demonstration of integrity and responsibility. He loved and dedicated himself to God, his wife, his family, his work, and to serving others.
In League City, Wes initially worked for Ford Aerospace leading various engineering projects. In 1975 he opened Wray's Air Conditioning at 2101 West Main. His work to enable others to maximize their potential was noted on numerous occasions. He was an active participant in the Rotary Club of League City and was named to their "Roll of Fame" in 2006. Later he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
Wes served on various Air Conditioning and Electrical Boards for League City over multiple decades. The League City Mayor commemorated a day of recognition for Wes "for his tireless dedication and gift of service to League City; and for being a person of integrity, purpose, and vision, whose contributions will serve our city long into the future."
After receiving his Mater's Electrical License from almost every major municipality in the state of Texas, Wes dedicated himself to teaching, enabling others to achieve the same credentials. He taught night courses for over 15 years, at San Jacinto College, resulting in over 100 students gaining their Master's Electrical License, representing over 20% of all Master's Electrical Licenses in the City of Houston at that time. In 2010, Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker declared "Wes Wray Day" in the City of Houston for his "Selfless dedication to the instruction and guidance of future Master Electricians in the application of the National Electric Code."
Sue and Wes have also been active members of Bay Area Baptist Church, the former First Baptist Church of League City, since 1965. In 2011, Wes was recognized as Deacon Emeritus for his 46 years of service at Bay Area First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue, daughter, Cheryl Hill, and 2 sons, Daryl and Raland Wray and five grandchildren. Condolences may be sent to 1910 Savanna Court North, League City, TX 77573.
