Wilford Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2025.
Wilford Charles Smith, born on April 19, 1943, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Huei-Lien Smith; his daughter, Christina Trotter; and his son, Gilbert Wilford Smith III.

Wilford was known to most as Will. As an avid lover of Jazz music, he joined the University of South Carolina's Congaree New Horizons Band. He dedicated the latter part of his years to this endeavor and then later formed the Dixieland Codgers.

Will served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1983, stationed in Taiwan, Germany, Italy and stateside. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Upon retiring from the Army, he became a government contractor which afforded him continued global travels.

He was a deeply spiritual individual who dedicated his life to serving Jehovah and spreading the gospel. His faith was a central part of his life, and he found great joy in ministry work.

Will's mornings were often spent at the Bark Park with his two canine companions. Whether enjoying time outdoors or engaging in conversation, he was always ready to share the gospel with those around him. His warmth and dedication to his beliefs left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to those whose lives he touched.

My husband, Ken, and I met Will and his pup Muffin at the Saluda Shoals dog park. I´ll remember him as a lovely soft spoken gentleman.
My heart goes out to your entire family.
May God bring you peace.

I only knew Will by our daily visits to Saluda Shoals Bark Park. He and his
canine companion, Muffin, were morning visitors every day. I was shocked to hear of his passing and saddened by this news. Will was such a warm and likeable human being and his absence will be heart felt. My prayers are with his family and his beloved Muffin for their painful loss. Friends forever, Lynn Doolittle

Will and his wife Tanya were always so kind to me from the time I first met them. I have thought of them both many times in the past few years. My heart goes out to Tanya. Will Smith will be missed by many.

For those of you that have lost him as a friend, I am truly sorry. Know that he passed away peacefully while napping at his desk in his home office. The look on his face was serene as if he was having a pleasant dream.
