William John Adler

William John "Bill" Adler, 97, of Cleveland, died on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, in Cushing. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Q. Brown and Dennis Stone officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born on June 8, 1912, in Morrison to Christ Adler and Margaretha (Tuetken) Adler. He married Emma (Montgomery) Adler on Nov. 20, 1937, in Tecumseh.He received his early education in Noble County. He was of the Lutheran faith and was baptized in 1912 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Perry.He farmed for 40 years and later bought a home in Stillwater. He was a carpenter until his retirement. He did beautiful cabinet work. He really enjoyed golfing, traveling and fishing.He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and one daughter-in-law.He is survived by his wife, Emma, of the home; son Billy Adler and wife Jean of Longview, Texas; daughter Naomi Geraldine Smith and husband Jack of Pearland, Texas; daughter Caroll Lea VanDeventer and husband Bob of Cleveland; 10 grandchildren, Stacy Smith; Sean Smith and wife Susan of Pearland, Texas; Karrie Pettyjohn and husband Paul of Edmond; Douglas VanDeventer and wife Julie of Cortez, Colo.; Sue Todd and husband Jim of Longview, Texas; Sherri Williams and husband Dana of Longview, Texas; Timothy Adler and wife Shauna of Edmond; Ann Adler of Missouri; Kenny Adler of Dallas, Texas; and Celia Moore and husband Jeff of Cleveland;15 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
