William "Bill" Cheney

William S. Cheney (Bill) left this world to be with our Lord on Friday March 7, 2014 at the age of 88. Bill was born in Upland Ca, on Feb 26, 1926 to William S. Cheney and Marie Cheney-Rogers. He later moved to Eloy,AZ to live with his aunt and uncle where he enjoyed one of his greatest passions in life, living and working on a working cattle ranch. He entered the military service with the U.S. Navy on Feb 25, 1944 during World War II serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Attu in the South Pacific. After his discharge from the military in 1947, two very important events took place; he married a wonderful and amazing woman, Norma Cheney (Gunter) who later became the mother of his two boys, and together they moved to Ontario,CA where he started a life long career in the electric sign business. After moving his family to the Antelope Valley, Bill opened Cheney Sign CO. which he is successfully operated and was very prominent from 1952 until 1993. Bill was an avid aviator, having obtained his pilot's license and purchased his own plane. A major passion of his, he enjoyed flying to all parts of the U.S and Mexico. In 1993, Bill retired, sold his business and moved to North Carolina where he was employed by Parish Sign & Service in Raeford. Bill returned to the Antelope Valley in the year 2000. He began working part time in the sign industry as well as selling commercial real estate throughout the valley until his health declined and he was no longer able to work. Bill was preceded in death by Norma Cheney, his wife of 18 years and the mother of his two sons. Bill is survived by his brother, Robert Cheney and his wife Donna of Lady Lake Fl., his two sons, Mike Cheney and his wife Ann of Lancaster, CA., and Joe Cheney and his wife Sharon of Choctaw, OK. Five grandchildren; Robert Cheney of Lancaster, CA., Shawn Cheney and his wife Katie of Rocklin, CA., MSgt. Jennifer Jones USAF of Cheyenne WY serving in Afghanistan, Dannielle Ewald and her husband Brad of Midwest City, OK., and TSgt. Ryan Cheney USAF of Midwest City, OK. Four great grandchildren; Caitlin Ewald, Jaxon Ewald, and Carter Ewald all of Midwest City, OK., and Brennen Cheney of Rocklin, CA. Beloved brother, father, grandfather,great-grandfather and friend, Bill touched many lives while he was with us. He will be greatly missed, but will forever live on in our loving hearts. The family extends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Hoffman Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of our father.
