William Busby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2025.
William Paul "Buzz" Busby, Jr., age 50, passed away on May 17, 2025, in Chelsea, Alabama. Born on February 4, 1975, in Auburn, Alabama, Buzz lived a life full of dedication to his family, his work, and his passions.

A proud graduate of W.A. Berry High School in the Class of 1993, Buzz began his journey in the restaurant industry early on. His first experiences came during summers working concession jobs alongside his father-an introduction that would spark a lifelong career. He went on to manage Good Ole Boys in Auburn, Alabama, where he honed his skills and deepened his love for hospitality.

In 2003, Buzz took a major step forward by becoming co-owner and manager of Old Town Grille in Childersburg, Alabama. Under his leadership and vision, the restaurant flourished. His efforts were recognized with numerous accolades over the years: Childersburg Business of the Year in 2010; Small Business Employer of the Year by Greater Talladega; and most recently, Greater Coosa Valley Business of the Year in 2023. These honors reflected not only his business acumen but also the respect he earned from colleagues and community members alike.

Beyond his professional achievements, Buzz was a devoted father who cherished every moment spent with his children. Whether it was cheering on Will at baseball games or casting lines together while fishing, or enjoying quiet evenings watching the History Channel and reading with Claire-Buzz found joy and purpose in being present for them. His love for them was unwavering and evident to all who knew him.

Buzz's passions extended beyond family and work. A loyal sports fan through and through, he rooted enthusiastically for Auburn University athletics, the Atlanta Braves, and the Indianapolis Colts. He also possessed a remarkable artistic talent-able to translate emotion into art with ease and grace. His drawings captured more than images; they conveyed feeling.

Those fortunate enough to know Buzz will remember him for his big heart and generous spirit. Always ready with a joke to lift someone's spirits or lend a hand when needed most, he brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. His easygoing nature made him a friend to many and a source of comfort during difficult times.

Buzz is survived by his beloved daughter Claire; his son Will; Barkley Ward, former spouse and mother of their children; sisters Tess Howard; Betsy Treloar and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karen George and William "Bill" Busby.

A celebration of life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Tuesday May 27th, at 6690 Cahaba Valley Road in Birmingham Alabama. Visitation is at 10am, followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Donations made to:
