William T Carroll

AGE: 81 • Lakewood

William Carroll, age 81, of Lakewood passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1936, Bill lived in Middletown, NJ before moving to Lakewood NJ. Bill served in the Army Reserve. He worked for the United States Government at Fort Monmouth as the Fabrications Facility Manager where he received many awards and commendations. Bill also officiated many sports at the high school and college level. Bill enjoyed his love of sports by coaching a few of his children in baseball, softball and soccer. He loved watching and playing the game of golf and always tried to improve upon his game. He could often be found on the greens within his local community with his golf buddies.

Bill was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Bill married his high school sweetheart Betty Ann in April 1956. Bill and Betty Ann spent part of their winters in Naples, Florida and shared a love of travel. Bill would say he and Betty Ann made the greatest team, believing in The Power of Two.

He always instilled in his children the values of hard work, honesty and kindness. He immersed himself and his loving spirit into everything we did. He trusted we would follow our own paths and encouraged us to achieve our personal dreams. He was patient and kind and always had a great sense of humor. His personal joys included time spent with his loving wife, children and grandchildren. He loved watching his grandchildren when they were young and attended many activities and sporting events, as they grew older.

William was predeceased by his parents and his grandson, Zach. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth, his son Joseph Carroll and his wife Bonnie of Colts Neck, his daughter Marianne Buttler and her husband Douglas of Belford, his son John Carroll and his wife Shelly of Naples Florida and his daughter Joanne Amato and her husband Chris of Point Pleasant and grand children Joseph Jr. and Corey Carroll, Dylan and Brett Buttler, Kylie and Kacey Carroll, Christian, Matthew and Emily Amato and great grandchild, Piper. Also, his brothers, John, Eddie and Paul and his sister Dorothy D'Entremont. There will be a private, family only service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warriors and Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.
