William 'Bill' H. Crotty, 82 of Carlton, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, Ariz. Mr. Crotty was born Aug. 27, 1921 in Cloquet, Minn., to William and Maude (Young) Crotty Sr. He was a longtime area resident and graduated from the Cloquet High School. Bill was united in marriage to Etta Christenson on May 1, 1941 in Cloquet. He was a major in the U.S. Air Force and a World War II veteran and retired from the Potlatch Corp. in Cloquet as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Bill was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton; the Potlatch Quarter Century Club; and the Cloquet Country Club. He and his wife Etta enjoyed golfing with friends and spending their winters at their home in Rio Verde, Ariz. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Perdetta Engbritson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Etta; two sons, William (Kristina) Crotty of Ingleside, Ill., and Craig (Clare) Crotty of Mundelein, Ill.; one daughter, Sandra Sorgenfrei of San Ramon, Calif.; one sister, Rosamond Hoppe of Cromwell; eight grandchildren, Zachary, Heidi, Lisa, Kimberly, Glenn, Brian, Cathleen, and Curtis; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Connor, Lindsey, and Josh; and several nieces and nephews. VISITATION:5-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Visitation will resume on Saturday, May 15, 2004 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton, celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Francis Paquette. Military flag presentation will be provided by members of the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 262 of Carlton. Inurnment services will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Carlton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, AZ, c/o Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, MN. 55720

My sincere sympathies to you and your family, Etta. Bill was so great to work with and for, and count having been one of his secretaries a privilege. Everyone who knew him will mourn his passing.
