WILLIAM LEFEVRE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 14, 2012.
William "Wayne" Le Fevre, 95
May 8, 1916 – March 13, 2012
Wayne Le Fevre of Point Loma passed away on March 13, 2012. He was born in Loveland, Colorado to Charles Brayton Le Fevre and Marie Van Doran Norton Le Fevre.
Wayne grew up in Glendale, California, and was in show business briefly as a cast member of Fox Studios "Captain Kidd's Kittens" (1927) a comedy similar to "Our Gang". Wayne worked on survey crews for the California State Division of Highways. He met Martha Weaver in the Fresno office and they married in 1941. During World War II, Wayne served as a Meteorologist in the U. S. Air Force in Alaska. Wayne finished his education at the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and returned to State Highways in Fresno. During the Korean War Wayne served another two years on active duty in Utah. In 1958 Wayne was promoted to head of Advanced Planning for CalTrans, San Diego District, and the family settled in Point Loma. Wayne and his department were responsible for surveying much of the area in the desert east of San Diego for future highways.
Wayne stayed in the Air Force Reserve, retiring after 25 years as a Lt. Colonel, and in 1971, he retired from CalTrans. Wayne loved golf, the outdoors, his ocean view and garden, and always kept an eye on the weather. In later years he stayed active, was quick-witted with a bright outlook and a generous smile. Wayne is survived by his daughter Jeanne Le Fevre of Montrose, California. Martha preceded him in death in 2003.
A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 11am on April 25, 2012 at The Thursday Club, 1224 Santa Barbara Avenue, in Point Loma. His ashes will be placed at Fort Rosecrans Columbarium at 9:30am that morning.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to prostate cancer research at PC-REF, 6823 Deer Hollow Place, San Diego, CA 92120; or to The Nature Conservancy.

We were acquainted with Mr. LeFevre as a fellow walker on Guizot St. in Ocean Beach. He never missed walking on a beautiful day. Just shortly before his death, we stopped to visit as we passed each other;we teased him for walking with his cane held over his shoulder, as though he was carrying it for luck rather than support. He admitted that his orders were to walk "with the cane." We will miss seeing him.
