William McNamara Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 25, 2023.
William "Bill" Zoeller McNamara, 90, passed away on August 15, 2023. He was born June 24, 1933 to loving parents William Lawrence McNamara and Adelaide Mary Zoeller in Evanston, IL.

Known for his caring, humble, and contemplative nature, Bill spent most of his life in the Chicago area, including Hines, Elmhurst, and Cicero. In retirement, he moved to Milwaukee, WI.

After attending Garfield Elementary in Maywood, IL, followed by Elgin Academy for high school, Bill pursued his passion for history at Dartmouth College, graduating in the class of 1956 and becoming a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Additionally, he studied at Cornell Law School, earning his law degree in 1959.

His career began as a counselor of the blind for the Illinois Division of Vocational Rehabilitation before dedicating 30 years to medical transcription at Veterans Affairs West Side Medical Center in Chicago, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Illinois bar from 1962 to 1996.

Bill had fond memories of family trips to national parks and summer camps at Towering Pines in Eagle River, WI. He cheered for Chicago sports teams, especially the Cubs, along with the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed listening to history and mystery books.

Having lost his vision at a young age to macular degeneration, Bill was thankful for the many people who enriched his life.

A memorial gathering will be held for friends and family on Tuesday, November 14, at 12:30 p.m. at Hawley Ridge, located 920 N Hawley Road, Milwaukee, WI.
