I hardly know where to begin...Avery, or Billy, as I knew him, has been on my mind lately, as we had lost touch almost 30 years ago. I first knew Bill in California, we met through my roommate at the time and they had been at ACT in SF together. In 1975, we spent hours and hours together in his small apt. In Venice Beach, talking, and sorting out the problems of the world. He was a great, good friend. He was a kind and elegant guy. We reconnected in NY in 1985 and I stayed with him in his place on the upper east side...again, long talks of life and futures. Eventually I moved back to CA and he to FL.
This evening I thought of him, and it is with deep dismay that as I looked him up online that brought me to this. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. Even though it has been over two years, I send my thoughts to his family and hope someday to meet you all.
With sincere sorrow, Stephanie Harker

"Billy" was my roommate at Darrow for two years. He was funny, talented, and a good friend. Many great memories of our times together in that corner room in Meacham House.

Saddened to learn of a great friend's passing. We really hadn't seen each other since our days at Darrow together, but Bill will always be in my heart. - Tim Tefft (back in Greenwich, NY)

I am so sorry Marjorie. I hope he got as much joy at the Historic Asolo Theatre as he gave to us who so enjoy being there, including this past festival weekend.

Dear Betsy and the entire Mitchell family - I am so terribly sorry for your loss. When Bill worked at the Van Wezel he was very kind and supportive of my professional work. I was just returning to the workplace after having kids and I really appreciated his encouragement and his sense of humor. I hope that you all find comfort in each other at this sad time. xoxo
