William Arnold 'Bill' MontgomeryFuneral services for William Arnold "Bill" Montgomery, 69, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Eric Brown officiating, with entombment in Cullman Memory Gardens.Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Mr. Montgomery passed away Thursday, May 28, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born Dec. 29, 1939, in Tuscaloosa to Elmer and Lola Bell Wheat Montgomery. He was a salesman for Farm Bureau and Ace Hardware Inc., a businessman having at one time owned a service station, restaurant and hardware store. He served in the military, was a Gideon, a member of the Cullman and Logan Masonic Lodges and was a longtime member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. He loved his family, his friends, his country and his church. He was an ardent University of Alabama and Los Angeles Dodger fan. He was called by many different names depending on when you knew him: Arnold, Bill, Daddy, Dirtdauber, Big Daddy and Papa. He would stand up to anyone and stand up for what he believed. He had run the course and finished the race. May he rest in peace.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph; his father-in-law, F.S. Kilgo; and two brothers-in-law, Hosmer Minor and Gene Kilgo.Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Kilgo Montgomery; three sons, Craig (Carol) Montgomery, Ron (Tammy) Montgomery and Jon (Kim) Montgomery; a daughter, Sonya (Joseph) Roberson; three grandchildren, Auburn Nicole Story, Hayden Harris and Zane Montgomery; a sister, Carolyn Minor; his mother-in-law, Mamie Kilgo; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Richard) Dahlke, Marilyn (Ronnie) Freeman and Sherry Kilgo; and a host of nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the UAB Lung Transplant Program (contact UAB Gift Records t 205-934-7242); or St. Andrews United Methodist Church.Pallbearers will be John P. White, Jim Butts, Johnny Kirk, Duane Roberson, Danny Hite, Gary Watts, Paul Freeman, Martin Speegle and Jimmy Barnes.Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Carolyn, I was praying for you before and during the funeral. I have no idea what it's like to lose the love of one's life. I pray that God will take each of you in His arms and breathe on you with his healing holy spirit of love, that he will sustain you and comfort you and give you peace. So sorry I could not come.
