William O’Brien Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 19, 2025.
William J. O'Brien III, 55, of Portland, passed away on the evening of September 11, 2025. Born on November 21, 1969, in Middletown, he was the beloved son of Dianne S. Guess and the late Peter M. O'Brien. Bill attended Xavier High School and, after graduation, entered the trades. He dedicated many years to the CT Sheet Metal Workers Union as a "tin knocker," ultimately embracing the role of project supervisor in the later stages of his career.

Billy O'B will be fondly remembered for his vibrant spirit and love for spending time with friends. His family will cherish his dedication to promoting gatherings and upholding family traditions. He had a deep appreciation for the history of Middletown and took pride in his North End roots. An enthusiastic supporter of the Mets, Islanders, and Knicks, he was particularly passionate about the Hartford Whalers. Bill also enjoyed playing on various baseball and softball teams throughout the years and discovered a love for boating and travel later in life.

He is survived by his mother, Dianne, his daughter, Kylie O'Brien, and his brother, Michael O'Brien, along with his family. He leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Middlesex Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during this difficult time.

There will be no calling hours. Further details will be provided soon regarding a Celebration of Life that will take place at a later date.
