Wayne Raney
La Feria, TX.-William Wayne Raney passed away on March 2, 2009 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen after a lengthy illness. Wayne was born in Clovis, NM on December 12 th, 1943 to Chester Vernon Raney and Mary Thurman Raney and was a stepson to Edd Edmiston. As a young boy he moved to Muleshoe, TX.
Wayne worked as a contractor for transmission power lines as a foreman thru out Texas and New Mexico. In 1986 he met Patti Martinez and they were married and lived on the road for 1 ½ years until Wayne and Patti wanted to settle down back in the valley. Wayne worked for Magic Valley Electric Co-op as a lineman then later as an inspector.
Wayne loved everyone no matter, what he loved life. In 1998 he had a liver transplant in Dallas, TX at Baylor Medical Center. He loved to team rope he said he wasn't good but enjoyed it, and Patti did also. He was a member of many trails riding clubs here in the valley. Wayne will be remembered by many for his always smile. He would say smile they don't know what you're thinking then. Wayne never met a stranger and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, and sister Glenna Silger.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 23 years, Patti of La Feria, TX; his children: Chet and Leslie Raney of Woodard, OK, Pam and John Heisler of E. When I think of Wayne, I remember a soft spoken southern guy. At the last family reuion he was on crutches, he said his horse stepped on his foot, but it wasn't the horses fault, he is a good old horse. He told us one time he fell over the dog, but it wasn't the dog's fault, he was just happy to see Wayne, once again he was a good old dog. That was Wayne, and that humor will be missed by us all.
Patti, we know you spent years taking care of Wayne and how much we admire you for doing this. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
From the youngest of the Raney siblings.

Patti, I know how much you meant to my brother Wayne. You must be a very good roper and tamer because Wayne always had the spirit of a wild mustang. His casual manner and that cowboy smile always fascinated me when I was too young to know who he really was. Later in life, I came to learn that Wayne is one of those "Good 'Ole Boys" that are put on earth to spread good will and maybe a few good times. The mold for Wayne was broken.

For you, Patti, I hope you enjoyed his spirit, as I know he loved you very, very much. I think I can speak for all the Raney's when I say we all love you for loving Wayne so much.

May God bless you and your family.
