William Roll Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2024.
William Carl Roll (Bill) peacefully closed his eyes on earth and opened them in Heaven to spend eternity with Jesus on June 6, 2024. The beloved husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion.

Bill was born on February 8, 1960 and grew up in Fairfax, Virginia. After graduating from North Carolina State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Bill moved to Washington, D.C. Bill met Hope Clayton and got married on June 10, 1989. Soon after, they relocated to Winter Park, Florida where they built a beautiful family. He is survived by his loving spouse and their four children: Wesley Canali (Daniel), Maggie Drummond (Matthew), Billy Roll (Bre), and Allie King (Sam).

Bill was a proud grandfather to Ruby, Betty, Billy, Eloise, and Stetson. He was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his future grandchildren, Camellia and Jackson.

He was the cherished son of Dr. William E. Roll, Jr. Bill is also survived by his siblings: David Roll (Sue), Robert Roll (Penni), Becky Farace (David), Charlie Clayton (Lisa), and Cole Clayton (Jae). He will also be fondly remembered by his twelve nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his mother, Harriet Compe Roll, and by his in-laws, Charles W. Clayton and Joan B. Clayton, his brother-in-law, Clay Clayton, and sister-in-law, Rachael Clayton.

Bill's life was distinguished by his unwavering devotion to his family and his love of the Lord. Bill would conclude each dinner prayer with "Let this food strengthen our bodies so we can go out and do Your work". As a lifelong follower of Jesus, he would gather weekly to learn and teach Bible Study Fellowship. It was also his honor to serve on the board of the Orlando Union Rescue Mission for many years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family visitation will be on Sunday, June 23 from 4pm - 6pm at DeGusipe Funeral Home, 9001 Orlando Avenue, Maitland. The Celebration of Life will be on Monday, June 24 at 11am at the First Baptist Church of Winter Park, 1021 N New York Ave. The family has asked guests to wear bright colors to symbolize Bill's positive outlook on life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to the Orlando Union Rescue Mission, 1521 Washington St., Orlando, FL 32805.

From his Bible Study Fellowship class: Bill was an exemplary leader and class member. He brought an easy laugh, a deep love of Jesus Christ, and a humility that characterized his inner spirit. During his recent struggle he made it clear it was a biological battle and it only added resolve to his spiritual strength. God speed brother - you will be missed deeply. And as we always say in truth, "See you later".

My favorite time spent with Bill was when he was building our my son's playroom. Bill and Hope had just had their first child and my son was born just a few months before Wesley. It was so helpful sharing our baby stories and the new life of parenthood. We ended up being neighbors at the Ford Plantation and Oh My Gosh, it was so fun hanging out with the Roll family and Bill's infectious, happy, fun and always entertaining self. He was a true blessing to our family and such a great support to me during a difficult time. Love, Laurie, Parker and Andrew.

Bill's warm, genuine smile and winning ways will be so deeply missed, not only by us, but by the entire Ford community who were blessed to know him. His wife and amazing family are a testament to the man we knew. I can almost hear the angels singing as they welcomed him into heaven. Our hearts are with his family.

Its not my first, but it is my best memory of Bill--our dove hunting trip to Argentina in 2012. Bill was full of life and adventure, no matter the journey. I will miss him. Scott Powell

Hope, I am in shock and can't imagine your sadness. Bill had the most welcoming and endearing smile. This will live on thru his children and grand children. May Jesus fill your Holy Spirit with peace and strength during this very difficult loss. I wish I could hug you

I had the pleasure of spending time with Bill on two separate occasions. Once at Matt and Maggie's beautiful wedding and another as Matt's guest at The Ford member/guest tournament. What I will always remember about Bill is his generosity, sense of humor.

The evenings at the Ford after long days on the course talking, laughing, making bets, and arguing over which Super Bowl National Anthem was the best of all time are memories I will always look upon fondly.

I responded to a baby sitting posting when I attended Rollins College back in 1990. This is how I met The Rolls. I am so sad to hear about Bill's passing.
