Dana Kirby Obituary
Dana E. Kirby, 85, of Greenfield, IN passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017. He was born to Robert A. Kirby and Ressie (Clark) Kirby in Hagerstown, IN on July 13, 1932.
He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He joined the Navy on his 18th birthday. He retired from the Navy and Naval Reserves after 35 years. He retired from teaching after 35 years. He had been the head of the science department at Greenfield-Central High School. He also taught at Hancock-Central High School; Blue River High School, and Mooreland High School. He was a member of Curry’s Chapel United Methodist Church, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The USS Kearsarge CVA-33 Association, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving Dana is his wife of over 60 years, Genevieve (Dillon) Kirby; two sons, Charles Lee (Rosemary) Kirby of Carthage; Terry Dean Kirby of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Calleen (Curt) Wilder of Indianapolis; Diana (Todd) Woodworth of Greenfield; two grandsons, Ryan and Devin; a granddaughter, Dana; and one great granddaughter, Courtney; two sisters; and one brother;
Preceding Dana in death are his parents; two brothers; one granddaughter; and one daughter-in-law.
Per Dana’s wishes, no public service will be held. He will be buried at Mooreland Cemetery in Mooreland, IN. Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield has been entrusted with final arrangements.

My Sincere and Heartfelt Prayers to the Family for their Loss. Mr. Kirby was an Awesome Science Teacher and at one time our Land Lord, my Ex-Husband and I rented from him when our children were small. He was such a wonderful and kind Man and will be Greatly Missed by the Many lives he touched...

I have great memories of Mr. Kirby as my teacher. He created a love of science in me and probably drove me to become a registered nurse. He truly touched me. (Class of 74)

You have my sincere sympathy for the loss of Dana. For many years I worked with Dana at GCHS. He was always professional, organized, and provided a sense of humor that kept me chuckling throughout the day. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Hope I get the chance to visit with you for I have some wonderful memories to share.

Dana was a good friend and teacher who helped many in need. He gave me his car to use for a week when mine was being repaired--I was a single mother with a small daughter. His sense of humor was well-known to all the teachers. I will always remember his "pyramid of learning" for the science department. He obviously took the principal's assignment literally. Only those department heads who read this will remember the pyramid. All of Dana's children were in my classes. Sincere sympathy to the family RIP, Dana
