New Albany - William "Bill" Stemen passed away peacefully on August 1, 2023 after an extended illness. He is survived by his loving wife Judy Stemen and daughters Holly (Eric) Holm and Heidi (Daniel Iannarino) Stemen. He was loved by grandsons Connor, Austin, Hunter, and Elijah. In addition he is lovingly remembered by family Cheryl, Tom, and Rebecca Hartman and Jerry (Joanne) Middaugh. He grew up in Central Ohio and spent his career in education, primarily at Upper Arlington and New Albany, as a teacher and college counselor. In addition he coached golf for many years and was inducted into the OHSAA Hall of Fame. He was an avid OSU fan and loved his Buckeyes. He was an active member in his church and spent many years teaching Sunday School. Friends can come to pay their respects at Grace Life Nazarene (6000 Johnstown Rd, New Albany) on Friday August 18th (2-4pm and 6-8pm) and on Saturday August 19th (10-11am visitation, 11am Celebration of Life).

I have so many wonderful memories of Bill during the time we knew him at NAFCON (Grace Life Nazarene). Especially from choir when he participated in shenanigans with the others in the bass section. The twinkle in his eye and his laugh were a gift to all. I’m sure that he and Kim are enjoying catching up with each other while experiencing no more pain or sickness. My very sincere and heartfelt condolences to Judy and all of Bill’s family as the walk through final loss begins.

I had the absolute honor to work with Bill at New Albany High School for two years. Bill served as the best mentor anyone could possibly have. I learned more about college admissions than I thought possible from Bill. But what I most learned from him was to treat each person with kindness, dignity, and to give each person your full attention. I am so grateful to have been touched by Bill´s wonderful life.

I met Bill in the spring of 2012 in the middle of some personal and professional transition in my life. He welcomed me with open arms and heart into a group of men at church. We immediately bonded over our love of sports and our faith. He helped me grow in many ways for which I´ll be forever indebted. Whenever I came back to town, he was always willing to listen, lead and inspire me. He will always be a part of my life and my thoughts and prayers are with friends and family of this remarkable man.

So sad to learn of Bill´s passing. He and Judy were our neighbors for many years on Windrow Court. When my husband could no longer mow, Bill took over our yard work along with his. He always had time to "shoot the breeze" with Ron and sit on the driveway to let our little dog crawl all over him! He was a kind and caring person who will be missed and never forgotten. Loving thoughts and prayers to Judy and family.
