William Stewart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2025.
William Douglas "Bill" Stewart, 59, of Houston, Texas, passed away on July 18, 2025 in Amarillo, TX. A man of many talents and deep convictions, Bill lived a life marked by music, service, innovation, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Born in Groves, Texas, Bill graduated from Vidor High School in 1983 and earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 1988 from Lamar University. He also pursued graduate studies in opera and later earned a master's degree in healthcare administration. His career spanned higher education and healthcare administration, but his professional success was always secondary to his devotion to family.

Music remained central to Bill's life. An accomplished tenor, he performed several lead roles in operas and was a guest soloist with musical organizations in the Houston area. He served as staff singer at St. Mark's Episcopal Church and Temple Beth Israel, later volunteering with St. Thomas Episcopal Church choir. Bill also sang with the Houston Saengerbund and directed the Mannerchor.

Bill's career was as dynamic as his personality. As a healthcare administrator, he guided two medical practices through construction projects, built three toxicology laboratories, and most recently consulted for a biomedical lab while supporting the launch of a new medical practice.

Beyond professional accomplishments, Bill enjoyed working on cars, home repair and renovations, and being in the great outdoors. Scouting became a passion after his sons Daniel and Ian joined Scouts. He loved belonging to an organization that both shaped young leaders and offered the joy of outdoor adventures. He often said that the best sleep he ever got was on a campout.

Above all, Bill was most proud of his family. His love for wife Anne Marie and children Daniel, Katherine, and Ian was evident in everything he did-from the way he lit up speaking about their achievements to countless hours supporting their dreams. Bill provided unfailing support to his children and brightened their days with his quirky humor and corny dad jokes (the Bluebird of Happiness Wakeup Call!), understanding that true success was measured by the strength of family bonds. Even in his busiest moments, family remained his north star, guiding his decisions and inspiring his greatest joys.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Anne Marie Weilby Stewart; their children Daniel (Kayla), Katherine, and Ian Stewart; his brother Paul Stewart; and sister Debra McElwee; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Margie Dickerson Stewart and Luther Paul Stewart; brothers Nash Stewart and George Stewart; and sister Dollie Stewart.

Please join us to celebrate Bill's life on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 4900 Jackwood, Houston, TX 77096. One of Bill´s many legacies is his kindness. It is clear to me that Bill lived a life with gratitude as his outlook. With an abundant heart, he was able to give to so many and in so many ways. May we continue to honor Bill as we move through our days, helping those in a way that they feel valued, just as Bill so beautifully did for us.
