FR. WILLIAM J., T.O.R.
Age 88, of the Sacred Heart Friary, White Post, VA, on Tuesday, September 13, 2004, at the Friary. Born Jan. 14, 1916, in Pittsburgh, son of the late George and Nellie (Broderick) eider. Fr. is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Bajzek and a nephew, Thomas Bajzek, both of Pittsburgh. Fr. began his studies at Duquesne University and graduated from St. Francis University and Sr. Francis Seminary in Loretto. He pursued graduate studies in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. Fr. entered the novitiate of the Sacred Heart Province of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis in Loretto in 1936, pronounced his first vows in 1937 and solemn vows in 1940. he was ordained to the priesthood in 1941 by Bishop Richard Guilfoyle in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Following his ordination Fr. served as Assistant Pastor of St. Catherine Church, Holy Rosary Church and Sacred Heart Church, all in New Jersey and at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Bayside, NY. He was a member of the faculty of St. Francis University from 1949 to 1951, from 1953 to 1989, he served as teacher, Director of Athletics and Coach at St. Francis Prep School in Spring Grove. Later he served as hospital chaplain in Pittsburgh and as Assistant Pastor of St. Gabriel Church, Marlboro, NJ. He devoted the last few years of his life to the Ministry of Prayer at Queen of Peace Friary in Pittsburgh and Sacred Heart Friary in VA. Friends will be received after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Chapel, on he campus of St. Francis University, Loretto, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel by he Very Reverend Christian R. Oravee, T.O.T. Minister Provincial, celebrant. Committal Franciscan Friar Cemetery, Loretto. Arrangements by GIBBONS FUNERAL HOME, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, PA.
