March 11, 1941 - August 23, 2024

Willie Lee Long, a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. He was 83 years young.

Early Life

Born in Greenbrier, Limestone County, Alabama, to the late Millie Witchard Long and Isaiah Long, Willie Lee confessed his hope in Christ at an early age. He lived a life of service, holding various positions in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1958 to 1964.

Career

Willie Lee held the Chef's position at the renowned Britling Cafeterias, later employed with John Blue Company as a Tractor Material Handler. Afterwards, he relocated to Los Angeles and then New Haven, CT, where he became self-employed, providing transportation services to students attending various universities. His position as a Custodian at J&B Cleaning ultimately led to his retirement.

Family and Legacy

Willie Lee is preceded in death by his mother, Millie Witchard Long, father, Isaiah Long, son Anthony Leon, and five siblings: Rosie Lee Davis, Rachel Malone, Dorothy Langford, Emmitt Davis, Sr., and Curtis McDonald. He will be deeply missed by his children: Willie Long, Jr., Joyce Long Roberts (Jeffrey), JoAnn Walton of Huntsville and Madison County, Alabama; Timmy Long of Baltimore, Maryland; Isaac Long of North Carolina; Dion Long of Canada; John Long, Michael McFarland, and Cassandra McFarland of New Haven, Connecticut; and Byron McFarland of Summit Station, Ohio. He leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two brothers: James (Dorothy) Fletcher and Fred (Gracie Marie) McDonald, both of Athens, AL; a special niece, Deborah Faye Davis, of Madison, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Tribute

As his family remembers him, "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him" (Psalm 103). "The loss of my father will always sting. But now, everything that I do is in honor of him and celebrates his life." Willie Lee's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched. A Memorial Service will be held on November 9, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the home of Mr. Long's daughter Joyce Roberts (Jeffrey) of Harvest, Alabama
