Woo Woo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 14, 2004.
Fern Lan Woo (Kwan) _ Woo Fern Lan Woo (Kwan) passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at St. Paul's Hospital with her family at her side. Fern was born in Toisan, China on January 23, 1911. She married Tape Woo in 1929. Her husband had immigrated to Canada at age 13 in 1924. At age 18, he returned to China to marry Fern. Fern immigrated to Canada in 1949 with their daughter, Mae. Their son, Sidney, immigrated a few years later. Fern and Tape owned and operated The Marigold Restaurant on Third Ave. for over thirty years, until Tape's death in 1980. Fern's greatest joy was to cook for her grandsons and to spend summers in Minot, N.D. with her daughter, Mae, and family. Fern will be greatly missed by her daughter, Mae (Alan) Lim of Minot, N.D. and daughter-in-law, Jean; her grandsons, Doug (Sarah) Woo, Garry (Raksha) Woo and Jason Lim; and her three great-granddaughters, Chloe, Olivia and Madeline Woo. She was predeceased by her husband, Tape, on April 29, 1980, and her son, Sidney on January 18, 1983. Our sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Paul's Hospital, 5th Medical Unit for their compassionate care. Special thanks as well to Dr. Joe Chin, the family doctor. We also wish to thank all the Saskatoon Home Care Staff for their devotion and tender loving care for Fern over the past three years. A viewing will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2004, and the Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2004, both from McKague's Funeral Chapel (3rd Ave. and 20th St.). Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery following the Service. Arrangements have been entrusted to John Janex, McKague's Funeral Chapel, (664-3131).
