GREENSBORO — Woodrow Lee Land, Sr., 84, passed away, Monday, August, 13, 2012 at his residence.
A 3 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Lawndale Baptist Church. There will be a private internment prior to the service.
Woodrow was born October 31, 1927 in Guilford County to the late William Thurman and Elizabeth Smitherman Land. He served in the United States Army from 1950- 1952. He worked and retired from Gilbarco after 22 years of service. Woody was a devoted husband, father and friend and loved all his family. He was a wise man with a gentle spirit and deep faith. Even though he had a reserved demeanor he would be sure to surprise you with his quick wit. He lived each day by the Golden Rule and was a man of extreme integrity. He was also an avid Tarheel fan, loved stock car racing and spending time at the beach. He especially enjoyed gardening and took great pride in his beautiful tomatoes.
In addition to his parents Woodrow was preceded in death by his former wife Ruby Beal Land; and sister, Mary Land Baity.
Woodrow is survived by his wife of 10 years, W. Lou Kinley Simpson Land; son, Woodrow L. Land Jr.; daughters, Janet Simpson Weitz (Arthur) and Lisa J. Simpson; brother, Jack Land (Shirley); sister, Winnifred Wrenn; grandchildren, Brad Morgan (Ashley), Heather Morgan, Chris Weitz, and James Weitz; great-grandson, Spencer Whitman; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to NC Alzheimer's Association, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110 Raleigh, NC 27612; UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, External Affairs Office, UNC-CH CB #7295, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7295; or Lawndale Baptist Church, Building Fund, 3505 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro NC 27408.
Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel are serving the family.

Dear Lou & family,
Lane & I are so sorry for the loss of such a sweet, loving man such as woody was. He will be greatly missed. May God wrap His loving arms around each one of you & give you the peace & comfort that only God can do. Love in Christ to all.
