Zachary Julian Werner (Zack) beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in
Henderson, Nevada with his loving wife Rose by his side.
Zack (as he liked to be called), was born to Simon (Sy) and Fay Lerner at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Maria Werner, his former wife, Jeanette Werner, his sons, Bruce and Jay, his daughter Claudine Fay, daughter in-law Joy (Parichat), his grandsons, Matthieu, and Asher, his grand-daughter Michelle and fiancé Theodore (Teddy), sister Mindy (Marilyn 1936-), his nephews Warren and Brian Brenner, and stepson Christopher M. Portillo and his children.
He is pre-deceased by his beloved mother Frances (Fay) (1906-1973), his father Simon (Sy) Lerner (1909
Milwaukee, WI-1992
San Mateo, CA) younger brother, Nathaniel Lerner (1945-1947), his sister Elaine (1932-2006) and her husband Jack Rabin, sister Corrine (1937-2015), his grandparents Harris (1885-1951) & Dora (1888-1947), and Uncle Gerald & Felicia.
Zack's brother, Nathaniel, died in a tragic accident at a young age. Zack's parents separated at that time, and he had no contact with his father thereafter. However, Zack was adored by his loving mother and big sisters.
Zack graduated from John Marshall High School in Chicago. After graduation, he was employed in various capacities helping his beloved mother and sisters as best he could. During that time, he took several college courses at night to better his education. Zack was married to his first wife Jeanette in 1965.
Zack was a representative at Taylor Corporation (Regency/Carlson Craft) in the graphic arts printing industry where he worked for many years. Additionally, he took up several weekend gigs to keep himself busy. The family lived in
Northbrook, Illinois where his children attended local schools, and they enjoyed taking road trips, including to the Dells and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and occasionally to south Florida. However, the marriage ended in divorce.
Zack remarried and took a promotion to a new position, residing in
Buffalo Grove, Illinois. After several years, Zack & Rose eventually left the Chicago area and relocated to
Las Vegas, Nevada, where they cultivated new friendships, and Zack was employed with CBS Corporation until his retirement.
Zack was an extremely generous, kind gentleman with a quick sense of humor that enjoyed meeting people and would often bring a smile to those he encountered. He was an avid outdoorsman and worked hard throughout his life. He enjoyed going on long walks, reading, music, movies, farmers' markets, and always had a soft spot in his heart for those in need.
Upon his retirement, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, as well as visiting various casinos, shows, and restaurants on the Las Vegas strip. Zack kept himself physically fit and exercised regularly. However, he was later diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatments and surgery at UCLA in
Los Angeles, California. He valiantly battled the illness with a good long fight, but his strength finally gave out.
Zack was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
Although he encountered many life difficulties, in his heart, Zack always wanted to be the best father that he could be and tried to provide a good life for his family.
Due to circumstances, his children never had the chance to say goodbye, but will be forever touched by his memory.
