LIMA -- Byron Richard 'Dick' Allen, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on June 15, 2023. He was born in Lima on January 21, 1942, to the late Byron and Mary (Hageman) Allen. On October 20, 1963, he married the love of his life, Carolyn 'Ducky' Miller and she survives in Lima.
Dick was a 1960 graduate of Lima Senior High School and had attended The Ohio State University Lima Campus. He then began his lifelong career at WESCO, where he retired after 40 years as the branch manager. He had been a member of the Morning Optimist Club in past years and always looked forward to selling geraniums for their annual charity fundraiser. Dick was active in the Lima City School system and served on the school board for 16 years. He was a man of great faith and had recently been attending Southside Christian Church.
Dick's greatest joy was spending time at the derby shop with his sons and grandsons, teaching them the trade and love for cars that his own father had instilled in him at a young age. He loved to travel and spend time with family and friends, and especially looked forward to his family gathering at the dinner table on Sunday evenings to share stories and laughter. He was quick-witted, caring, and loved to help others in need, expecting nothing in return.
Survivors include two sons, Shawn (Stacy) Allen of Lima, OH and Ryan (Angie) Allen of Lima, OH, three grandchildren Devon, Brady, and Emilly Allen, two step grandchildren Lindsay (Zac) Boehm of Van Buren, OH and Jessica Stull of Columbus, OH, three step great grandsons Camden, Easton, and Nolan Boehm, brothers-in-law Roger Wright of Lima, OH and James Harris of Marion, OH, niece April (Rick) Tschuor of Lima, OH, and nephews Adam (Jenny) Wright of of Lima, OH, and Aaron (Temple) Wright of Lima, OH, several nieces and nephews, bonus family members, close friends, and his grand fur babies Sailor, Oliver, Derby, Bella, Charlie, and Bandit,. He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law Carl and Eleanor Miller and sisters-in-law Marilyn Wright and Dorothy Harris.
A private graveside service for the family will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Cosart and Wanda Werking officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice or Deb's Dogs.

Ducky and family,
I am so sorry to learn of Dick's death.
I was not sure what to think of Dick because for many years we were waving at each other while I did my walk in the neighborhood. He did ask me to pray for him. He had an extremely tough battle with his cancer and showed his determination and faithfulness throughout. It was a pleasure to get to know him and his family better in his final weeks. You all are in my prayers during this time of grief.

Although I have many memories of Dick, the one that comes to mind is after a football game so many of us were at Frisch´s when a hearse came flying in and circled in and out. Yep, it was Dick Allen.
He was a wonderful human being. Just a good guy his entire life.

In life, sometimes we take for granted that the things that we consider regular will always be that way. And when the day comes that it changes, we aren´t the same.
I always knew that I could always count on your porch furniture coming out, and the closer we got to your house I could see the back of your head and our usual "good morning" (Blue first, of course).
We will miss you Dick. Ducky and family we are holding you all close in our hearts, and hoping that the peace of all understanding comes soon.
