Carl was a 1952 graduate of Fort Jennings High School and he received his Bachelor of Science from O.N.U., where he was also a member of Theta Kappa Phi. After one year there he went into the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Knox, KY, Ft. George G. Meade, MD, and Ft. Ritchie, Maryland, where he was the Catholic Chaplain Assistant. Returning from the Army, he spent 35 years in Minster Schools. His major field was histories, but he also taught art and music. At Minster, he was known as a kind, but strict teacher who did everything to excite his pupils for learning. He was a delegate to O.E.A. and Conventions & O.E.A. and N.E.A. lifetime member. He is listed in the "Who's Who" of elementary teachers of U.S.A. He was also a Jennings Scholar. While in high school, he was the first and only male drum major of the high school band. In 1962, he left Minster schools to teach one year in Caracas, Venezuela, while there he played organ for St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Carl loved antiques, and has been seen at many auctions getting the best antiques. His home has many purchases from the sales. He also had a great love of traveling; he had traveled to Mexico, Canada, U.S.A., Caribbean Islands, Europe, and Morocco. Carl had a kind heart, always to please others. At Ft. Haven in Ft. Jennings, he would entertain the people there by playing piano. He was the musical director and also taught music at Leipsic Catholic School for one year after retiring. He was a gifted musician and loved playing the organ and piano. He had played organ at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Jennings and Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos, and he also was a soloist at many weddings in the
immediate area.
He was a volunteer at St. Rita's and Memorial Hospital and also a docent at the Allen County Museum. Carl had a great love of the Wieging name and had been working on the genealogy of the Wieging's, where he traced over 1000 relatives from Bork, Germany.
