VAN WERT -- Darrell Eugene Wieging, age 84, of Van Wert, passed away Friday morning, May 16, 2025 at the Meadows of Delphos.
He was born January 26, 1941 in Delphos to Joseph A. and Estella A. (Best) Wieging who both preceded him in death. On June 15, 2000 he married Judith Mullen-Singer who survives in Van Wert. He had previously been married to Connie Kill-Wieging.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn (Wayne) Ledyard and Shannon (Scott) Jackson both of Delphos; his sons, Scott (Cheri) Wieging of Lima and David (Carla Erwin) Wieging of Columbus; stepsons, Corry (Laura) Singer of Oakwood and Troy (Mindy) Singer of Ohio City. He is also survived by grandchildren, Aaron, Tyler and Noah Ledyard, Courtney (Eric) Thorp, Derek Wieging, Cole (Callie Snyder), Mac and Lily Wieging, Kennedy (Alex) Haunhorst and Keaton Jackson; ten step-grandchildren; great-grandson, Barrett Thorp; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Merlin, Harold and Donald 'Jack' Wieging; and sisters, Ann Conley and Janet Wieging.
Darrell was born and raised in Delphos. He was a 1959 graduate of Delphos St. John's High School. He was a lead for the class play "The Boyfriend". He worked at the Pizza Pantry in Delphos. He retired from the West Ohio Gas Company in Lima working there for 35 years.
In the earlier years he played the drums in a band, "Country Gentlemen". He played softball in the men's league on Friday nights representing businesses: Myers Cleaners, Ditto-Briggs Marathon, Delphos Motor Sales and Harold's Bar of Delphos. He also volunteered calling bingo at the St. John's Fall Festival for many years.
Darrell loved woodworking and made picnic tables. He loved to work on cars and was very proud of his '59 and '76 Oldsmobiles. His family and friends remember him as "Mr. Fix-It" as rarely was there an issue he could not repair or fix if given the opportunity. In the later years he enjoyed the company of his two Yorkies, Beau and Zellie who he loved dearly.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Parish Foundation or the American Heart Association.
