LIMA -- Constance "Connie" Eilleen Gabes, age 96, of Lima, passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at 11:50 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at The Greens at Lima Convalescent Home.
Connie was born February 23, 1928 in Lima, to Clyde and Katherine (Gilmore) Cook who preceded her in death. In 1945, she married Donald L. Gabes who preceded her in death on March 11, 2002.
Connie was a lifetime member of South Side Christian Church. She was a 1945 graduate of Lima South High School. She had been an employee of Corwin's Bakery and the U.S. Census Bureau. Connie was a giver in everything she did. She was very artistic and enjoyed writing poetry and was an avid painter. Connie and Donald spent many winters with their friends at FunNSun in Sarasota, Florida. Above all else, Connie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughter Lori Kay (Jeffrey Ray) Geesaman of Lima; her six grandchildren Shaun Gabes, Carrie Burden, Curt (Rebekah) Gabes, Sara (Lance) Bollenbaugh, Megan (Eric) Jicha and Grace Gabes; her fifteen great-grandchildren and her five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her daughters-in-law Sherleen Gabes and Wendy Gabes.
She was preceded in death by her two sons Michael Craig Gabes and Steven Lyle Gabes; her brother Leslie Dean Cook.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at South Side Christian Church, 3300 South Side Drive, Lima, where the family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Rev. Todd Cosart will officiate the service.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to South Side Christian Church.
