LIMA -- Daniel G. Gast, 90 of Lima, passed away peacefully July 31, 2025, at his home, with his loving family by his side. Dan was born July 2, 1935 in Delphos, to Pete and Mary (Daniel) Gast, who preceded him in death. On June 11, 1966, he married Mary Jo (Ciminillo) Gast, who survives him in Lima.
Dan was a graduate of St. Rose High School and he was a proud United States Army veteran. He worked at Ford Motor Company for 38 years until his retirement. Dan was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church where he attended mass regularly. He was an avid golfer in his younger years and continued to enjoy watching golf as he matured. Most of all, Dan enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his children, Sheila (Charlie) Dale, Sandra (Rich) Dackin, Mike (Rebecca) Gast and Christopher (Katie) Gast; grandchildren, Samantha Hamilton, Katie (Nick) Schroeder, Ellie (Taren) Sullivan, Bailey (Colton) Metz, Tori (Drew) Spragg, Abbie Dackin, Nicholas Gast, Annie Gast, Vera Gast, Elsa Gast, Rosie Gast and Daniel Gast; great-grandchildren, Riley and Ryan Cluck, Jaxson Schroeder, Skylar and Ryder Sullivan and Bentley Spragg and his loving companion, his dog, Sam.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Father David Ross to officiate. Entombment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services - Eastside Chapel with a Wake Service at 7:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
