DELPHOS -- Donald R. "Don" VanSchoyck, Jr., 64, of Delphos, passed away at 7:09 AM on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at St. Rita's Medical Center after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on July 27, 1960 in Lima to Donald R. and Leota F. (Green) VanSchoyck, Sr., who both preceded him in death. On August 1, 1992, he married Mary Schimpf, who survives in Delphos.
Don had worked for the Lima News, where he met his wife Mary. He also made many lifelong friendships there that still last today. He finished his career doing what he loved, in medical transport assisting people with their medical appointments with love and compassion. He was a member of the Delphos Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, muscle cars, camping, building things and was a wonderful cook. He was an avid sports fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Reds. Don was a social gabber who loved to talk to anyone and his ornery giggle was well known.
He loved going out for ice cream and his favorite was a banana split. He was a do it yourself kind of guy, who liked to spend time teaching his kids how to fix their cars. Above all else, Don loved spending time with his family and his best 4 legged companion Buster.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of over 32 years, Mary VanSchoyck of Delphos are his son Don (Josi) VanSchoyck III of Lima; his daughters Hannah (Ryan Marcum) VanSchoyck of Huber Heights, Megan (Justin Stewart) VanSchoyck of Delphos, Courtney VanSchoyck of Delphos, Stephanie Thompson of Findlay, Jessica (Joe) Diaz of Findlay and Paula (Andy) Hoiles of Bowling Green; his first great-grandchild due in December; his grandson Kason, who is due any day; his other grandchildren Hailey, Bridgett, Alexander, Jaxson, Blake, Ryan, Deriek, Kayla, Kara, Emerson, Trey, Camryn, Carter and Grayson; his siblings Larry E. VanSchoyck of Lima, Timothy S. and Vicki VanSchoyck of Delphos, Michael R. and Mary Jane VanSchoyck of Findlay and Teresa N. Comer of Findlay; many nieces and nephews. Don was very proud to be part of the "Outlaws" including Steve and Vicki Schimpf, Kathy and Jack Edgecomb, Tim and Jeanie Schimpf, Joe and Melissa Schimpf, Linda Williams, Matt and Jennie Schimpf and Mark and Jenny Schimpf.
He was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Joan Schimpf; his grandson Hayden; his sisters Betsy Ann VanSchoyck and Lisa Fern VanSchoyck; his sister-in-law Chris VanSchoyck and his niece Brandi.
