ELAINE CHENEY

NORTH BALTIMORE — Elaine Rose Cheney, 84, of North Baltimore, died at 4:05 p.m., Thursday, November 24, 2016, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

She was born on November 22, 1932, in Elida to the late David D. and Florence (Lehman) Glass. She married John A. Cheney on July 19, 1952, and he survives.

Elaine is also survived by her daughter, Caprice "Cappy" Cheney of North Baltimore; her sons: Mark Cheney and John (Pam) Cheney II, both of North Baltimore; her brother, David Glass of Lima; her grandchildren: Mason and Monica Cheney; her step-grandchildren: Patrick and Tamala Dyar; 4 great-grandsons and 1 great-great-grandson.

Also preceding her in death were her brothers: Marion, James and Donald Glass.

Elaine was a graduate of Elida High School, and had formerly worked as a secretary at Bowling Green State University and for Dukes Deputy Registrar in North Baltimore. She was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church, North Baltimore, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the "Kitchen Cut-Ups." She was a long term Board Member and Secretary of the North Baltimore Public Library. She also was a member of the North Baltimore American Legion Auxiliary, Questettes and a longtime Henry Township Precinct worker.

Elaine was a Pilot and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Along with her husband John, Elaine helped in the building of their trophy winning 2 place open cockpit Biplane which they flew together for 20 years. She was also a member of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association and helped in restoring her and John's Willys M38A1 Military Jeep, which she logged many miles riding in through the years. She was a charter member of the Ohio Motor Pool and participated in the 2009 Transcontinental Military Convoy.

After retirement she and John traveled extensively throughout the world. Elaine was most notably known throughout the area as the "Cookie Lady" of North Baltimore, where she was famously known for her cutout Snoopy Cookies, she had a true passion for baking and cooking, but her greatest love was her family.

Elaine's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bridge Home Health and Hospice and Blanchard Valley Hospital for all of the special care and compassion.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, with Reverend Rick Adams officiating. Burial will be in New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, where 7:30 service by the North Baltimore American Legion Auxiliary will be performed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James United Methodist Building Fund and/or Bridge Home Health and Hospice.
