LIMA -- Gary Mathias, 83, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at his residence.
Gary was born on November 25, 1940, in Carey, Ohio to Edward and Genevieve (Kromer) Mathias. On September 17, 1960, he married Kathleen (Lentz) Mathias, who survives in Lima.
Gary was a 1959 graduate of Carey High School. Gary started his working life at Pennington Bread. He was the manager of Northland Lanes for over 20 years, then went on to retire from All Phase Electric. After retirement he went to work for Napa Auto Parts. Gary enjoyed relaxing, bowling, and fishing. He loved to go to Indian Lake and enjoy family time.
He is survived by the love of his life, Kathleen of 64 years; children, Craig (Pamela) Mathias of Lima, Joe Mathias of Covington, KY, Lori Best of Lima, and Dan (Tracy) Mathias of Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Heather Schrier, Hillary Dominiq, Katy Mathias, Sarah Mathias, Jason Mathias, Tyson Mathias, Chelsea Hanjora, Megan Fay, Brock Best, Olivia Schroeder, Bronson Best, Dustin Mathias, Bo Mathias and Dakota Mathias; 17 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and a brother, Lee Mathias.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Tiffany Mathias and Marissa Mathias; a brother, Donald, and two sisters, Linda and Sharon.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Gerards Catholic Church. Father Mike Sergi will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gerards School.

then i thought well some people...-would be.. SHOCKED! they would say,,, remember when we went to garys viewing.? then,, i wondered if i asked the facility people if they would give some money to anyone that clapped, or laughed, or danced a little,,, during the mariachi music..i'm still trying to decide if i can afford...it..

with ( kathy's permission).( and the facility). now i wish i WOULD have hired a mariachi band to stroll in sometime during the viewing..and play maybe,, two songs,, uplfting ones nothing sad or morose. gary liked this restaurant out here...called casa bonita..mariachis would walk among the tables they seemed to enjoy themselves,,, anyway i read that someone said. ".you aren't really gone untill people stop saying your name".. and gary would have got a KICK out of it..his name is gary.. gary mathias.. my brother, and brother in law , gary.

Was so saddened to hear about Gary. I used to babysit the kids when they went to the bowling alley every Saturday and I LOVED IT!!!
Kathy always had Ruffles chips and Pepsi for me.
All the kids and I used to have a dance party by the pool table and sing Pretty Woman.
Gary and Kathy are the best.

Very sorry to hear of Gary's sudden passing. Gary and Kathy always welcomed Tim, me and our pals into their home some 55 years ago when we were teenagers and I was always happy to welcome them to the Casa Lu Al for many years. Rest In Peace Gary. Condolences to Kathy and her family.
