LIMA — Gloria A. Smith, 78, passed away August 16, 2021, at 6:12 a.m., at her home surrounded by her friends and family following a decade long battle with Alzheimer's disease
Gloria was born August 18, 1942 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late James Barnett and Murtie (Barnett) Martin. On November 18, 1961 she married Creed Smith who survives in Lima. Creed was her selfless, devoted, caring caretaker throughout her extended illness.
In her youth, Gloria worked as a nurse's aide at Lima Memorial Hospital. In later years she was an aide at Marimor Industries. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was always thrilled to spend time with her family. She was a longstanding member of Lima Missionary Baptist Church and her church family and friends always showered her with their boundless love, prayers and support.
Gloria is survived by her 2 sons Gregory "Greg" (Laura) Smith, and Alan (Lisa) Smith; her 5 grandchildren Joshua (Kelly) Smith, Demi (Matthew) Burden, Zane (Zoë) Smith, Dalton Smith, and Adam Smith; 6 Great Grandchildren; one brother Joe (Linda) Martin and her sister Jeanette (Harold) Hill.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bradley "Brad" K. Smith; and two sisters, Mildred Hicks and Betty (Raines) Grissom.
The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Lima Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Brock and Rev. Donnie Smith will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Uniopolis, Ohio
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services SHAWNEE CHAPEL and 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
