John Allen

1950 - 2024

LIMA -- John William Allen, age 74, of Lima, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 1:45 p.m. at Liberty Retirement Community, surrounded by his close family.

He was born March 30, 1950, in Lima, to Charles and Mary (Gauvey) Allen who preceded him in death. On December 30, 2000, he married Michelle (Minnig) Allen who survives.

He is also survived by his children, Aaron Allen and Zach Allen both of Lima, his brother Charles "Greg" (Jackie) Allen of Shawnee, and his beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was a 1968 graduate of Shawnee High School, received his bachelor's degree from the Ohio State University and two Master's degrees from the University of Dayton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the U.S.S. Seattle during Vietnam. He was a retired elementary teacher from Lima City Schools. He was a member of Tamarac Golf Club, and a dedicated golfer, competing and winning tournaments over the course of forty years. He was also an avid reader, a lifelong academic learner, loved traveling the world and loved playing video games with his children.

Visitation for John will be on Wednesday, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Shawnee Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services. A Parish Wake service will begin at 7:45 p.m. in the funeral home. His funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. Charles Catholic Church with Fr. Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery following the service, with military rites by V.F.W. Post 1275 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
