LIMA -- Leon R. George, 83, passed away on September 15, 2025, at 5:06 p.m. at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
Leon was born on April 8, 1942, in Fremont, OH, to Donald "Don" and Mary (Forma) George, who both preceded him in death.
He graduated from Fremont High School in 1960 and worked for the Fremont City Schools district for over twenty-five years. A proud supporter of the Fremont Little Giants, Leon rarely missed cheering them on during Friday night football games.
In his spare time, Leon enjoyed bowling and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts. He was also a passionate fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Long before the age of cell phones, Leon spent countless hours chatting with fellow radio enthusiasts on his CB radio. Above all, Leon loved his family and treasured the time spent with them.
Leon is survived by his brother, Harold George of Port Clinton, OH; his nephew, Christopher "Chris" George and his wife Laura of Pickerington, OH; his niece, Christina George of Port Clinton, OH; his nephew, Eric George and his wife Mary of Omaha, NE; his niece, Kathy Craig and her husband William "Will" of Lima, OH; and his nephew, Jeff Rhoads of Monroe, MI.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret L. Rhoads; his twin infant sister, Lillian; and his sister-in-law, Mary George.
No services will be held at this time. Burial will take place at Shawnee Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family.
