LIMA — Mr. Lonnie Lee Sanders, age 81, passed from this life on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at approximately 11:05 a.m. at Promedica Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio.
He was born on November 25, 1939 in Florence, Alabama to John Hampton and Celestine Sanders Griffith; both parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Sanders graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1958. He entered the United States Air Force from 1959 until 1965 where he was stationed in West Germany, Madrid, Spain, and other facilities throughout the World. He attended Los Angeles City College, University of Southern California, California State College at Los Angeles, and Columbia College of Motion Pictures in Hollywood. He obtained an AA degree, Bachelor's degree, and Master's Degree of Arts.
He was employed at the U.S. Post Office, Walt Disney Production, Affirmative Action Officer for the City of Lynwood, California and retired from the office of Congress woman Diane Watson in Los Angeles. Following his retirement, he re-located to his home town of Lima, Ohio. He later moved to Toledo, Ohio to be cared for by his son, Stanton A. Sanders.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory a son; Stanton A. Sanders of Toledo, Ohio. Daughters; Miracle L. Sanders of Memphis Tennessee, Monica (Richard) Kimble of Carson, California. A granddaughter; Amanda, Best Friend, Mr. Al Shepard of Portland OR, most recent Caregiver Rev. Dr. W. L. (Monica) Perryman Jr. and his friends from Lima, Ohio and the Fourth Street Baptist Church Lima, Ohio.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 445 Dorr Street, Toledo, Ohio. Rev. Dr. Willie L. Perryman, Jr., Pastor. Reverend Nathan Madison, Pastor of the Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church Lima, Ohio, is eulogizing.
Visitation/Wake services will be held on Tuesday July 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 445 Dorr Street, Toledo, Ohio 43604.
Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
