Michael Lamb Obituary

MICHAEL LAMB

LIMA — Michael Vintson Lamb, 63, died Monday, July 11, 2016 from natural causes.

He is survived by his wife, Linda K. Lamb of Lima, his parents Danny and Patsy Lamb, and brother David Alan Lamb (Janell) of Lima, and his sister Kristine L. Lamb of Cable, WI. He leaves behind his children, Danny V. Lamb (Melissa) of Sunbury, Ohio and Kathryn E. Shaw (Cris) of Arlington, VA that he continued to raise with his former wife, Elizabeth J. Waggoner (Jay), also of Lima. He leaves three grandchildren - Jack Lamb, Sam Shaw, Nora Lamb and 7 household pets - that he loved with all his heart.

Born in Lima, Ohio in 1953, Mike was a 1971 graduate of Bath High School. He received his Bachelor's in English from Centre College, Danville,KY (he called it the Harvard of the South) and his Masters of Education from University of Dayton. Following a short stint at Buckeye Pipeline, he started his education career at Apollo JVS, followed by Columbus Grove Local Schools. He spent more than 25 years at Perry Local Schools first as high school principal and then superintendent. He was Superintendent at McComb Local Schools for six years and then started as the Shawnee Superintendent in 2013, the district where he had resided his whole working career. Mike was a lifelong member at South Side Christian Church and numerous other local civic organizations and education associations. He was the President of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators from 2015-2016.

Mike was a creature of habit. His daily routine consisted of coffee from the Shawnee McDonald's, caring for his pond and its' residents, and following the national political scene on TV. He spent his last evening on earth attending his 7th Paul McCartney concert with his wife Linda. He spent almost all of his vacations in the Northwoods of Wisconsin where he loved to fish, look for deer, and make life-long memories with his family. He frequently welcomed his students to school and greatly enjoyed recognizing their successes by sending them handwritten notes. He was a witty and loving father who enjoyed texting with his children during Ohio State Football Games. His love and generosity to all will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 14, 2016 and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at South Side Christian Church, 3300 S. Side Drive, Lima, Ohio 45807 with a luncheon following the services.

Rev. Steve Brown and Rev. Todd Cosart will officiate the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association and DebsDogs.org

Mike Lamb and I were good friends from the first grade on at Bath elementary school. We often stayed all night at each others home, sometimes with other friends such as Bill Fields, Randy Joseph, and Phil Cosart. Mike Lamb and I played midget football together on the Bath Kats for four years. In the 7th grade Mike was the quarterback and Steve Rhine and I were in the backfield, along with other Bath graduates on the team. Mike hurt his back playing quarterback in the eighth grade. I am sure he would have otherwise gone on to play football the rest of his time at Bath. His injury also kept him from playing basketball for a few years, and yet he battled for a position on our excellent basketball team his senior year yet unfortunately was the last player cut. Undaunted, Michael started the process of keeping the best statistical records for our team I have ever seen, and included videotaping which was pretty new at the time. Michael was a great friend and I will miss him the rest of my life. -Michael Eberhart

Mike and I both went to Bath and I remember him as such a nice guy. Later in life his son Danny and my Rachel went to Shawnee together. Like his dad Danny was always such a nice and well mannered young man. I will keep you in our prayers as you all go through this rough time.

I was fortunate to have my classroom down the hallway from the superintendent's office. Almost everyday we saw Mr. Lamb in the hallway. I remember one day when we were talking that I called him my boss. He said he was not my boss but my co-worker. This is a prime example of the kind of person and educator he was. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Sincere sympathy to the family in your time of loss. I had Mike as an English teacher and baseball coach early in his career, at Columbus Grove. Clearly, the messages here indicate his large contributions in the field of education and his commitment to students. Less than a year ago, he was comforting us when my Dad passed. May God be with you and give you peace.

Danny and Katie,
I am so saddened to hear of the loss of your great father. I will never forget the times our families spent together at Perry sporting events and afterwards at your house. My deepest condolence.

July 14, 2016

Mike and I worked summers following high school at Buckeye Pipeline. In the subsequent years, whenever we were together, he never let me forget my shortcomings as a "pipeliner" and that I made the right choice by going into law and then on to the bench. He was a great friend and his loss is enormous in so many ways. RIP Mike and God's blessing to your family. Bill Lauber

Mike was a consummate educator. He cared deeply about the profession and the welfare of the students under his watch. Always quick with a wittism, he made people feel at ease with his effervescent smile. For those of us who followed in his footsteps, we will be ever grateful for his graceful and committed leadership.

Dear Linda and family,
Mike was an approachable, upbeat, thoughtful and engaging person willing to pursue ideas on making life better. Mike's personal notes to our children were meaningful to them and us. A great neighbor and friend who laughed at my poor attempts at humor when others wouldn't. Mike gave God a great ROI while amongst us on earth. We hope your grief is brief and loving memories long; Rest in Peace and Keep the faith!
