KALIDA -- Phyllis M. Moening, 98, of Kalida, passed away at 5:50 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2025, at The Meadows of Kalida. She was born April 27, 1927, in Putnam County to the late Joseph and Martha (Schmitz) Webken. On June 7, 1947, she married John Kenneth "JK" Moening, who preceded her in death on April 17, 2016.
She is survived by seven children: Ronald (Joan) Moening of Forrest, Linda (Stephen) Nienberg of Ottawa, Paul Moening of Kalida, Leonard (Amy Niese) Moening of Kalida, Marilyn "Myrt" Sehlhorst of Ottawa, Kathy (John) Leap of Ottawa and Patty (Dale) Winkle of Kalida; a son-in-law, Joe Sehlhorst of Kalida; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two children: Stephen Moening and Barbara Sehlhorst; two grandsons: Jordan Moening and Scott Moening; three granddaughters: Heather Moening, Melissa Hoffman and Andrea Nienberg-Renner; and three siblings: Carl Webken, Lou Ann Kahle and Helen Trenkamp.
Phyllis retired from the ASC office in Ottawa. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. Phyllis enjoyed sewing, visits and hugs with her family and friends, especially all of her grandchildren, singing to her favorite song, "Fishing in the Dark" and getting together with her sisters. They are now all together again.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at The Meadows of Kalida for their compassion and care for their mother.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Jackson Township.
